The Wiccan Pagan Times reviews Power Spellcraft for Life, November 2005

Have you been caught reading Power Spellcraft for Life? Check out the photo album!

The purpose of spellcasting is to effect internal or external change on some level. The majority of spellbooks on the market today simply list spells for practitioners to use, even if they purport to teach the reader about spells. How does a reader learn to formulate, construct, and cast a spell of their own to create positive change in their lives?

The how and why of spellcraft is typically overlooked in recipe-like spellbooks. In Power Spellcraft for Life the essence that powers a spell is isolated and discussed in detail. The individual steps in creating and casting a spell are separated and examined, as are various methods of empowering spellwork for maximum benefit and effect. Obscure steps glossed over or only superficially addressed in other books, such as raising energy, are also explored in depth.

By reading Power Spellcraft for Life, the intermediate practitioner acquires a deep understanding of the crafting and casting process, refining their existing beginner level of spellcasting ability and obtaining better control over the creation of beneficial change in his/her own life. Practitioners will be able to create their own spells, understand the complex thought processes behind each step, and apply their new knowledge with confidence to enhance their lives with positive energy.

By looking at the art of spellcrafting and spellcasting without a specific religious context, this book is accessible to people of any path who are comfortable within the New Age genre. Examples of traditional and creative spells are used throughout the book to illustrate techniques and instructions, while an entire chapter is devoted to basic spells that serve as outlines, exercises, and inspiration for the reader. An index to all the spells within the text is included in the appendices.

Chapter Outline:

Chapter 1: Spellcasting Defined
An introduction to the concept of spells that looks at what a spell is - and what it isn't. By looking at the basic steps involved, you can begin to understand the function and purpose of a spell. The many benefits and opportunities for growth and positive change within the your life by crafting and casting spells are also explored.

Chapter 2: Spellcasting in History
A look at specific instances of the use of spells and magic in various religious paths, cultures, and time periods, culminating in the modern day.

Chapter 3: Crafting a Spell
A set of detailed step-by-step instructions on how to construct a spell. Each step is separated from the others and examined in depth. The steps are also analyzed in relation to each other, and by how they affect you in the spellcasting process, and how they initialize change.

Chapter 4: The Ethics of Spellcasting
What's to stop you from taking over the world? Your own ethical code, that's what! Every decision you make has effects and consequences for yourself and others. This chapter talks about how to evaluate a situation in order to fine-tune a spell, and how to take appropriate action.

Chapter 5: Timing is Everything
Correctly timing a spell can reward you with quicker, deeper change. This chapter looks at how to fine-tune spellcasting using moon phases, days of the week, the daily solar phase, the seasons of the year, and planetary energies. The mystery of calculating planetary hours is also explained in simple terms.

Chapter 6: Correspondences
Add extra power to your spellwork with the use of correspondences. Elemental energy, herbs, stones, deity energy, specific tools and other components can increase the power and precision of your spell. This chapter examines how to determine what correspondences you can use, and how to combine them for maximum energy and benefit.

Chapter 7: Raising Energy
How does a spellcaster "raise energy" to make the spell go? This tricky step is examined in detail, and tips and techniques are explored. These techniques can also be extended to other areas of your life requiring positive energy.

Chapter 8: Methods of Magic
Many spells function according to a spellcasting principle, such as sympathetic magic and imitative magic. These principles are explained, and magical techniques such as candle spells, knot spells, color magic, etc. are outlined. This chapter explores how they may be used alone or in combination for positive change.

Chapter 9: Troubleshooting
What happens when a spell goes wrong? How did it get off track? If a spell doesn't work, what happened? What can you do to fix these situations?

Chapter 10: Solo Spellcasting and Group Spellcasting
There are benefits and drawbacks to working alone, as there are to working with others. When is one technique preferable to the other? This chapter also examines some common myths regarding solo and group work, and provides valuable tips and tricks for both.

Chapter 11: The Art of Magical Substitution
The practical spellcrafter knows how to amend, edit, personalize or transform a spell into something else. Many existing spells use ethically questionable techniques to create change. With the knowledge in this chapter, you can re-write negative spells to reflect a positive approach, and encourage creation in your life instead of destruction.

Chapter 12: Spells to Inspire
Inspiration can help you develop your own spells for positive change. This chapter offers you a variety of spells designed for different situations to practice with, to use as templates, to serve as inspiration, and to modify for your own use. Explore these spells for health, business and finance, protection, relationships, creativity, and more.

Chapter 13: Beyond Spellcasting
When you have mastered spellcasting by the traditional method, challenge yourself with these advanced techniques. Established spellcasters often discover that experience offers wisdom which can inform their lives on various levels, leading them to integrate magical acts into the flow of daily life instead of doing extensive spellwork to transform their lives for the better.

The Wiccan Pagan Times reviews Solitary Wicca for Life, November 2005

If you are a solitary Wiccan, what do you do after you've read a handful of basic 101 texts? After those beginner books, you know about the Wheel of the Year; you know about the God and the Goddess; you know about the basic tools of ritual. But do you know the why of ritual? Where do you go from here?

Perhaps you have been practicing for a year or two, and now want to know more. Most beginner practitioners use ready-made rituals provided in 101 books for sabbat and esbat celebrations. Practitioners like you at the intermediate stage are ready to learn how to craft their own rituals step by step, which reflect their own personal interpretation of the Wiccan practice. Solo intermediate Wiccans also seek methods through which they can explore the ever-evolving relationship with the Divine in the form of God and Goddess, and ways in which they can further relate to Nature.

This book examines and explains the steps of ritual and how they relate to the Wiccan mythos. It explores simple and complex rituals step by step, and reveals the inner working of ritual to enhance celebration for every practitioner. Solitary Wicca for Life is a book for advancing solitary Wiccans who wish to enrich their basic practice by building on the basics. Written by an experienced Wiccan practitioner, it addresses the practice of this religion with respect, knowledge, and understanding.

Chapter Outline:

Chapter 1: Practicing Solitary Wicca
An examination of what it's like to work alone, and how solo practice relates to the larger picture, including a comparison of pros and cons of working solo and with a group. This chapter also recaps the basic precepts of the Wiccan practice, the basic Wiccan mythos, and the relevance of the modern origins of Wicca.

Chapter 2: Sacred Space
How does sacred space differ from a circle? This chapter explores the uses of sacred space, the steps involved in creating it, and offers various techniques for creating sacred space.

Chapter 3: Advanced Circle Casting
An exploration of what a circle is, the steps involved in raising one, and why Wiccans use it. This chapter offers variations on the basic circle-cast, techniques and applications, and visualizations.

Chapter 4: Spells, Energy Work, and the Solitary Wiccan
While spellcasting is not an essential element of Wiccan practice, it's common enough to necessitate an examination of the basic principles of spellcasting within a spiritual context. This chapter also reviews the basics of energy work, an essential element of ritual.

Chapter 5: Simple Rituals
Often included in larger rituals, simple rituals are things like purification, consecration, and blessing. They're rarely examined on their own. Understanding what they are, how they work, and what they mean helps you be more precise in Wiccan ritual. Learn how to plan, create, and apply your own simple rituals, within or without a larger ritual structure.

Chapter 6: Enriching Ritual
There's more to Wiccan ritual than a cup, a knife, a wand, and a pentacle. The use of tools and practices such as sacred drama and the uses and influences of masks, ritual garb, and symbols can bring new depth to your personal practice.

Chapter 7: Crafting Rituals
The various stages of a Wiccan ritual are separated and explained in this chapter, and the reader learns how to plan, write, and perform their own solitary Wiccan ritual.

Chapter 8: Sabbats and Esbats for the Solitary Wiccan
Solitary practitioners sometimes feel left out when it comes to celebrations such as esbats and sabbats, the two basic foundations of Wiccan practice. This chapter offers ideas and concepts to help a solo Wiccan formulate their own rituals for these occasions.

Chapter 9: Rites of Passage
Again, a solitary practitioner can sometimes feel at a loss when s/he desires to mark a rite of passage without a recognisable community to confirm it. This chapter explores the stages of a rite of passage, and explores how a solitary can approach both fixed and moveable rites of passage.

Chapter 10: The Power of Words in Ritual
Creating your own invocations, meditations, and prayers can sometimes stump or overwhelm a practitioner. This chapter explores how to approach writing these elements of ritual, and how to incorporate them into your practice.

Chapter 11: Spiritual Archetypes
The basic archetypes of God and Goddess are explored, and various expressions of these essences are discussed. Meditations and visualisations provide tools for the reader to deepen their relationship with the Wiccan deities.

Chapter 12: Drawing Down and Aspecting Deities
Drawing down is one of the most confusing and misunderstood practices within Wicca. This chapter explores the rite in both its forms, as well as discussing how to safely invoke the essence of a deity into your own body for a variety of purposes such as divination, guidance, and communion.

Chapter 13: Growing as a Solitary Wiccan
One of the most difficult aspects of being a solitary practitioner is the difficulty in evaluating your own progress. This chapter explores methods by which a solo Wiccan can structure and appreciate his/her own evolution and spiritual growth, and how this spiritual practice relates to the world at large.

Back cover copy:

Witchcraft returns to nature?/I>

If you want to get back to the basics of witchcraft, look no further than your own backyard. The Way of the Green Witch provides everything you need to know to refine your study of witchcraft, including spells designed to get the most out of what Mother Nature has provided.

Renowned author and Wiccan High Priestess Arin Murphy-Hiscock gives expert guidance on subjects as:

* The history of green witchcraft

* Lessons of herbs and other natural ingredients

* Magical correspondences of plants, colors, and symbols in nature

* The seven central energies of the green witch's path

In today's increasingly urbanized and technological world, it's more important than ever to stay connected to your natural environment. But with The Way of the Green Witch, you'll learn to practice modern green magic--and come home to Nature's true way.

Chapter Outline:

Introduction:

What is the basic philosophy of the green witch? The earth is her primer, the natural world is her classroom. This introduction lays out the basic framework for the information found in The Way of the Green Witch.

Chapter 1: The Modern Green Witch

What is a green witch? Where does the practice come from? What are the benefits of living the green life in today's society? This chapter defines the green witch's path and discusses her spiritual ancestors.

Chapter 2: Elements of the Green Witch's Path

What tools does a modern green witch use? What are the basic components of her practice? Where does she work? What is her philosophy? All these are examined in this chapter.

Chapter 3: Listening to the Earth

There are several methods by which you can attune yourself to nature, even in today's busy, industrialized society. This chapter introduces methods such as sensing energy and sharpening your senses.

Chapter 4: The Four Seasons

Awareness of the solstices and equinoxes and how these are reflected in her own geographical location form the axis of the green witch's practice. The solar year is made up of four distinct seasons, each with resonance for the green witch. These four seasons can provide the basis for personal practice and the creation of a unique tradition specific to the individual green witch.

Chapter 5: Twigs, Leaves, Stars, and Stones

Using the bounty of nature in a personal spiritual practice offers the reward of knowledge and insight acquired through experience. This chapter looks at how the green witch uses the various elements of nature, including the sun and moon, trees, stones, flowers, and herbs.

Chapter 6: Crafting Green Witch Magic

Magical lore based in the green world is the central body of knowledge in the practice of green witchcraft. This chapter examines practical preparation, magical applications, crafts, and spells combining the various elements of the natural world, plus tips on preparation and storage.

Chapter 7: The Garden of the Green Witch

Cultivating your own herbs is one of the green witch practices. This chapter looks at the basic components of the green witch's garden, plus various methods of incorporating such a garden in today's world of city streets and high-rises.

Chapter 8: Teas, Oils, Baths, and Other Potions: Healing with Green

There are deep spiritual benefits to walking the path of the green witch. By immersing herself in the energy of the planet and its flora, a green witch can achieve higher levels of consciousness, which will benefit all those she interacts with and the environment in which she lives.

Chapter 9: The Green Witch in the Kitchen

As the green witch incorporates her practice into her everyday life, the preparation and consumption of food is one of the most direct methods by which we interact with nature. This chapter shows how the kitchen becomes the green witch's modern hearth, where healing and honoring take place.

Chapter 10: Expanding the Green Witch Circle

The green witch path is mostly a solitary one, but this doesn't mean she cannot learn from others. This chapter looks at methods of furthering and sharing the green witch's knowledge.

--unfortunately this book would of been great if it was published now for both of you!!!-- But still looking forward to it-- L.S.M.

Upcoming Books:

As of December 2006 I have handed in the first draft of what is tentatively being called Everything She Touches Changes: A Spiritual Guide to Pagan Pregancy. This book is currently scheduled for release in Spring 2008.

From the proposal:

When a woman is pregnant, she becomes the very essence of the Goddess: she who carries life within her, she who will rebirth new life created from old.

There is more to a Pagan pregnancy than simply recognizing that pregnancy and birth have spiritual aspects. This book addresses those aspects of pregnancy and birth from a uniquely Neopagan perspective.

Rituals, exercises, and meditations form an essential part of the book, designed to help the woman attune to the energies that shift throughout pregnancy.

Topics include:

  • Spiritually preparing for pregnancy
  • Spiritual support for the physical, emotional, and spiritual changes that occur throughout gestation
  • Spiritual support for miscarriage and abortion
  • Rituals for conception, safe pregnancy, and safe delivery
  • Responsible magical practice during pregnancy
  • Ideological examination of pregnancy in myth and folklore
  • Reference lists of animal spirits and deities associated with safe pregnancy and birth
