Anybody been doing any movie watching over the Thanksgiving weekend?

 

I rented Hancock...oh my gosh.  I love this movie.  I'm going to watch it again in a few minutes.

I also rented "The Strangers".  Glad I didn't watch it while it was dark outside.  I'll never answer my door at night while alone again....freaky stuff!

"Get Smart".  I haven't watched it yet but probably will tomorrw along with "Tropic Thunder".

 

 

Cool.  "The Strangers" was the best terror movie I've seen in a long time.  And yes, it is scary.  I guarantee it will even scare the snot out of Sensory poop...and she loves horror movies.

 

I bought an old movie on DVD that I watched.  Called "Lions For Lambs."  It has Meryl Streep, Robert Redford and Tom Cruise in it.  Very, very good movie that revolves around the lives of two college students who join the Army and go to Afghanistan.  Something goes wrong and they are both isolated on a mountain top in the winter surrounded by terrorists.  All this movie is transposed around a reporter (Meryl Streep) interviewing a Senator (Tom Cruise) who says he has a new idea to fight terrorism in Afghanistan.  On another front, the college professor (Robert Redford) is talking with one of his bright students about things.  All of these players are all connected somehow.  And basically, the whole morale to the story is that there are those that talk about doing something, there are those that actually do something, there are those who think they know what's going on but don't know shit, there are those who try to do something but their hands are tied by stupidity and there are those who are in power that have no business getting involved with big decisions that involve people' lives.  Very good movie that makes you think.

 

And currently, I am watching the whole "Band of Brothers" award winning HBO series on DVD.  My gosh.  You watch this movie and people who complain about things nowadays, you suddenly realize they don't know their asses from a hole in the ground.  A factual 12 hour series that evolves around a World War II unit, 2/506th PIR of the 101st Airborne, that was involved all the way from the Normandy invasion all the way through capturing Hitler's German Alpine retreat (Bergenstrasser (not sure if i spelt that right)).  Although I am retired military and I have seen people do brave things, I watch this and wonder how and why we do (or anyone does) what is done during time of war.  But then it all boils down to what I've seen...you count on your buddy to take care of you....and you take care of your buddy.  This whole series hammers it in place all throughout.  To steal a phrase from Winston Churchill...never have so many owed so much to so few people.

i watched cheech and chong and country bears last night i borrowed like 7 movies from a friend i rented tropic thunder but i didnt get to watch it the movie was messed up

Oh my gosh....I just finished watching "Before the Devil Knows Your're Dead".  WOW...

 

I think I'm going to end my evening with a nice cup of hot apple cider and "Horton Hears A Who"....

Ok.. horton hears a who was cute.  

i ended up watching the strangers last night which was a wierd movie talk about getting confused it starts from the end to the beginning

 

 

 

I been gettin' into old "Golden Age of TV" television shows (1950s) lately.

 

I just got through watchin' all the episodes of a TV show called "One Step Beyond."  It was like a percussor to "Twilight Zone," but it was based on true things that happened that perhaps may be supernatural (or not).

 

Now, I'm watchin' a TV show from 1952.  Sixteen episodes of "Victory At Sea."  All made from World War II footage with U.S. Navy technical directors making it.  It charts the whole war from the naval aspect of it, from the Axis and Allies sides.  I always liked this show with its stunning photography footage, even though it's in black and white.

 

After that, I have 16 episodes of a film noir private detective show from the 1950s called "Peter Gunn." 

 

Serious livin' in the past here.  Cool stuff though.  I like it.  And this is a great world we live in that we can get them all at once and watch them in a row (which you couldn't do back in the 1950s).  Kinda outdated according to today's standards, but you gotta understand this was all new stuff in the 1950s.  Not everyone had a TV in their house.  And the ones that did, it came in two colors....black and white.  Just where I came from.
