It seems that rude drivers are very much on the rise and road rage is more common.

Just the other day, I saw a small pickup truck full of teenagers swerving in and out of traffic and even using the center turning lane to pass.   they nearly cut off several vehicles!  They were easily driving twice as fast as the rest of the traffic, and this was in the middle of town!     It was so bad, I seriously considered calling 911 and reporting them, hoping they could be caught in the act before they killed someone.

I would be tickled to death to see Police crack down on this type driving!  Most people around here tend to be polite but we have our share of idiots also, obviously

One of my biggest annoyances are people who cruise (usually slowly) in the left hand lane.  This is supposed to be for PASSING only!   Apparently, they are beginning to take this seriously.  More power to them!   I've seen some who won't even move over for emergency vehicles....!   I guess they think they can pass them on the right, so why bother????

What's the law in your state?

The laws vary widely, according to John Carr, who works for a software company in the Boston area and who compiled  a list of the rules in each state after taking an interest in the issue:

  • A few states -- for instance, Kentucky, Maine Massachusetts and New Jersey -- permit use of the left lane only for passing or turning left.

  • Georgia, Colorado and Louisiana follow the Uniform Vehicle Code, requiring drivers to keep right if they're going slower than the speed of traffic.

  • Wyoming prohibits blocking the far left lane of a highway "for a prolonged period," though it adds that the traffic should be "at a lawful rate of speed."

  • In Arkansas and South Dakota, vehicles don't have to stay right.

  • In Alaska, Maryland, North Carolina and Ohio, vehicles can drive in the left lane so long as they're moving at the speed limit.

  • Florida is trying to join in: Lawmakers reintroduced a Road Rage Reduction Act this year, requiring motorists to stay out of the left lane on interstate highways except when passing. It passed the Legislature in 2005 but was vetoed by then-Gov. Jeb Bush, who questioned whether it was based on sound research.

It's no wonder drivers can be confused, and often frustrated.

a)  Cubans think driving laws - or any laws - apply to them.

b)  There are way too many Cubans.

c)  The rest are elderly Jewish persons from New York who used to ride on subways, and are in enough trouble trying to avoid getting shot at by a Cuban.

In the UK we drive on the left , so when I was in the USA in September I felt really at home cruisin' along  at 40mph in the left hand lane for 3000 miles  in California / Arizona/Nevada and returning all those friendly waves and other gestures being thrown at me by you friendly folk.

ohio left lane means speed on highway and as far as someone riding your backend if you have insurance push on your brakes make sure you have a seat belt on and pray they hit you hard enough to make some damage

In Nevada, I'm pretty sure the law reads like this:

"While driving in the left hand passing lane, observe all pertinent traffic laws, drive as slow as you can, sight see as much as possible (especially pertains to Las Vegas and Reno areas) and make sure you hinder all other drivers, feeling free to aggravate drivers behind you by turning your head and laughing.  It is optional, but feel free to have smoke spewing out of your tailpipes whenever you do this also."

I think that's what it says.  Not sure.

Colin San  Have you been confused when you were in Japan ?

In Japan, driver's seat is right side and the car is passage in the left side.
