Lost,
I totally understand what you say..you basically don't have a choice.
And I respect those that don't believe in religion and to be fair this must be a nightmare for those that don't and don't wish to partake in the festivities.
But there are those that say they are not religious but still partake in exchanging presents...moan if they have to work.

You have Thanksgiving which is originally a Christian celebration of harvest and the food we eat to say thank you to God. You call it exactly what it is Thanksgiving day. Majority of Americans celebrate this day.

Maybe mountain out of molehill but if people don't stand up for this political correctness bull crap. And as Christians we are meant to stand up proud with our faith and not hide behind others.

Lost as much as I respect that you don't believe and would rather work or do what ever you do you must also respect that as a christian that we should celebrate our festive seasons and call it by it's name and not be in fear of upsetting someone.

Miss,
As a Christian, Church Warden..member of a Parish Ministry development team and Local church Ministry team  I put my money, effort(in the region of 20 hours a week on top of a job which I do in excess of 50 hours a week) I think I put my money where my mouth is quite firmly.
And I would never even think I was "saved" by God unless I reach his Paradise  (heaven) and until then I have a vast amount of work to do IMHO
But there are those "ignorant" followers who think because they are Christians and go to church.. they will end up in Heaven

Hee hee..I work on Sundays?  Sorry couldn't resist....

Once upon a time a long time ago..they use to have what was called Blue Laws...and according to those laws the businesses were closed on Sunday or the Chistian Sabbath.  Jewish Sabbath begins on Friday night sunset and ends Saturday at Sunset.  7th Day Adventist have their Sabbath on Saturday.

Halde
I don't go to "church".  I have lots of work to do until my last breath has been inhaled.  And yes, I am saved.  I could care less what your association with any church or parish is.  And I very much remember your insult to me when my windsheild broke on my van and I took the necessary steps to seek reimbursement for the damage...not once did your "Christian" ass wish me well in my effort!   Happy Holidays is what it is...Happy Holiday's.  It in no way shape or form diminish the celebration of Chist's Birth.  Get over yourself!

Let me go back in time to the 60's and 70's for those of you who remember that time period...When an advertisement came out in the paper or a store posted greetings on the windows....THEY USE TO SAY....MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR....not happy holidays.... When was the last time you saw MERRY CHRISTMAS ON A STORE AD OR STORE FRONT???? i Know someone here is gonna say YES...take a pic and post it...id love to see it...ITS VERY RARE THAT YOU SEE IT...Because of Athiest and other religious groups want to take them to the supreme court....thats pure BullShit!!!!! it worked for 100s of years...till the influx of court bound people who want to run the country their way....screw them...MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL...EVEN THEM!!!

gotta comment on this one lol
wow i have never heard such bigotry in my life
Hal why are you a church warden ??? in my beliefs if i'm a christian and attend church and yes i believe worshipping god will eventually lead me to heaven
but i suppose because you wear the suit at church maybe you think you are better than most
i also think you are wrong for critisising anyone who says "Happy Holidays" as a christian and church warden i would have thought you would have appreciated the good wishes not threw them back in peoples faces
as a "christian" you embrace all cultures and spread the word of christ and follow his teachings
as for your views if you dont believe christ saved you by dying on the cross for you maybe its about time you stepped down from your warden post
hypocrites like yourself should be ashamed

as a christian i would like to say merry christmas, happy holidays to one and all whatever way you want to say it

No1,
I don't wear any suits..except at work, funerals and weddings.
just because someone goes to church and worship god doesn't mean they will go to heaven. Mafia worship God and go to church...but also killl and extort money etc will they go to heaven? Not for me to judge.
Jesus Died on the cross to save us...totally different Jesus hasn't saved us...we have to save ourselves by following christ...now thats the hard bit.
Hypocrite...maybe...you don't know only one person knows so I will let him judge me...not you.
As this time of year 25th of december is a festival for the birth of Christ which should carry on until the 6th of jan then yes it's christmas and shouldn't be diluted to a happy holiday. As much as I would not expect a muslim to say happy holiday during Ramadam.
No1 not quite sure how from reading above you find me a Bigot or a hyprocrite but thats your opinion..unless they are two new words you've learnt this week.

Oh, good grief.

Lost, and others..thank you.

To others, I will again explain (ugh, here we go again).

HAPPY HOLIDAYS is inclusive of everyone's choice of how they celebrate the season, all the way up to and including the new year.

What it does not do is prove a person is in any way excluding Christ from the season.  To make such an assumption and state it is due to "political correctness" is both stupid and idiotic.

If someone doesn't believe the way I do, good deal.  I still choose to wish them well.  How is that wrong?

To demand we say "Merry Christmas only" is going totally against Christ's teachings of love to all, even those who choose not to accept Him.

Unfortunately, there will always be certain people who prefer to stir something up rather than accept a genuine heartfelt greeting for what is is....  a wish that all have happy days filled with the love of family and friends, doing whatever it is they choose to do.

If you want to get technical, I think the way we live our daily lives the rest of the year speak more loudly than any simple holiday greeting ever could.

Sassy, I'm always willing to help hold you up. Especially when you wear a short dress or skirt.

Hugs, I work for OfficeMax, one of the the largest consumer office supply retailers in the US, and pretty much all of our seasonal endcap headers have "Merry Christmas" printed on them.

Hal, I have never stated my religious beliefs nor do I intend to. I will say that you should be careful of assumptions of my beliefs because I can almost guarantee they are wrong.

I will say this much about my beliefs. All major religions teach tolorance and acceptance of people who hold different beliefs than your own. There are many people who are uncomfortable questioning what they believe in and I think that may stem from fear. I have questioned my beliefs my entire life and as such, they change as my views and knowledge change. I refuse to blindly conform myself to another persons structure since people are fallible.

All of this reminds me of one of my favorite scenes in Christmas Vacation.

Clark: Where do you think you're going? Nobody's leaving. Nobody's walking out on this fun, old-fashioned family Christmas. No, no. We're all in this together. This is a full-blown, four-alarm holiday emergency here. We're gonna press on, and we're gonna have the hap, hap, happiest Christmas since Bing Crosby tap-danced with Danny f-ing Kaye. And when Santa squeezes his fat white ass down that chimney tonight, he's gonna find the jolliest bunch of assholes this side of the nuthouse.

Incidentally Colin, in the animated tv show Santa Claus Is Coming To Town, Mrs Claus started out as a hot, red headed teacher in the town. I think she was my first true crush. Well, her and Julie Andrews when she appeared on Sesame Street.

accepting a genuine heartfelt greeting for what it is....

I'm with Sassy on this. Why does there need to be ANY debate or we feel the need to dissect it? Or judge anone or even one another?

Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukah.....  To those that are giving whichever of thos phrases I believe it is their heartfelt greeting to me. What I say is 'my' heartfelt greeting. I am not making any kind of statement that either I am being politically correct or incorrect, or that I believe in the christian view, or whether I belive in christ or not. Or that they are. I don't think we need to dissect it and judge it as politically correct or not, or whether they or I think it is taking the 'christ' out of Christmas, christians or not. Can't we just take it as a heartfelt wish from one another no matter what it is. They are simply wishing you, in their terms, a joyful time celebrating with loved ones and family, a holiday of whatever donimation together?
I use to work with a very religious woman. She prayed before every meal even at work. She didn't impose it on anyone. She didn't say you were wrong because you didn't. She sat quietly with her eyes closed before eating her lunch and you often saw her lips briefly moving. That was what made her comfortable in her life. Actually, during that moment I didn't talk or inturupt her and I didn't wolf into my lunch either, nor did I pray with her. For me it was out of respect for her beliefs and comforts.
In my religion I was taught respect and have tolerance for all individual's spirituality, religion, ect because each individuals spirituality or religion and beliefs should be tolerated and respected because theirs is as important to them, as mine is to me.
Why can't we just take a heartfelt greeting, although possibly said using different words as a heartfelt good wish to us instead of disecting it and considering it somehow offensive in some political correctnes or not. Have we all really gotten so deeply embedded in the 'all about me' and I'm right and your wrong, and politically correct or incorrect?
Several years ago when I was having surgery she gave me a hug and said she would pray for me. I told her that I appreciated that. I'm not religious in that way, but I truly believed that her praying for me, was a genuine and heartfelt thought to me because praying is a great comfort to her. Alot of religions teach tolerence and tolerance of others differing views. Why can't one be tolerant and respect that although there are varying beliefs that they are simply wishing you the best in their own way?

So, I hope everyone had a Merry Holiday with their friends, family, and loved ones.
