I read in Insight Magazine that the whole ozone problem is not really created by emissions of gases produced by industry. In fact ozone is receding naturally, and that the effect of emissions is likely in the 1% range.
To comment on the oil.. this may take the discussion in a new direction...
I have long been confused at how we let the Arab nations dictate our oil prices. We bend over backward to continue relationships with them for their precious oil. Our countries go into panic and gas prices skyrocket, (what is gas at now ? 1.50US?) seemingly at the whim of Arabs. To speak frankly.. they have us by the short hairs.
It is a little known fact in North America, that Canada's Athabascan Oil Sands in Alberta are the largest deposit of oil in the world. The crude produced costs more to produce and is less "sweet" (pure) than the Arabian oil, but at least it is in our own backyard.
It would send the Middle East reeling and cause them to rethink if the USA could just ignore them and use only Canadian produced oil. Obviously, there are a million other considerations, but who knows what would happen until it actually occured.
I look forward to hearing all of your opinions. Thanks.
