Before you go on any trip, you want to make sure that you pack an emergency bag just in case you are ever stranded on the side of the road when your car breaks down. This is especially important if you have children. Remember it can take anywhere from one hour to two hours for you to get any type of assistance. This also does not include the time it will take you to get your vehicle towed or your tire changed. All you will need for your road side emergency bag is a small duffel bag, preferably water proof. This way if anything spills in the car it will not ruin the contents. You should make sure that you have at least two flashlights in your pack with batteries. You should also include an extra pack of batteries just in case. Antibacterial wipes should also be included. A first aid kit should also be in your pack, and it should contain band aids, disinfectant cream, and peroxide. It may also be a good idea to keep a spare prepaid cell phone in the emergency pack.
You may not think that it is necessary to keep the prepaid cell phone in the bag, but you would never realize how many people get stuck on the side of the road and their cell phone dies. This should only be used as an emergency back up. You should also pack some water and a few snacks that are are at least good for one year. Many people choose granola bars, and beef jerky since this tend to last very long and do not need to be refrigerated. You should also take the time to pack some tools. Just in case you break down you will have the necessary tools to try and repair your vehicle. A road side emergency pack can help you to be prepared for any type of situation. Try thinking of some additional items that you can add to your pack. Talk to your husband about what items he may want to add. I am sure that he will be able to come up with some suggestions.
One item that will have to be added each time you go out on a long trip would be ice packs. You can put a small cooler into your emergency pack that will hold your ice packs. It is very common for someone to injure themselves when they are changing a tire or trying to fix a vehicle. You also never know when you will get into a car accident.
