Bob, it is great you are active here again! I missed you, pard.

The colors in your Sound shots are beautiful, but the image detail is breathtaking! I only dove in the Sound twice, the first year I was here. It was dark and gloomy with poor visibility. Coming up from the Gulf of Mexico I found it ruddy COLD too. There was one (large) family in the Sound that did almost all the diving work here, so diving jobs were not a viability. Discouraged, I enrolled in another vocational school, and all my time became consumed by computer programming, leaving none for recreation. Then came a half year of intensive job hunting. When I finally got work it was graveyard shift for years leaving me chronically exhausted during daylight hours. Gradually, I forgot about diving.

Is that your own scooter in Crescent Lake? If so, I am jealous, never having been able to afford one when I was young and diving. Is there anything in the lake to actually see?

How about a little information on Porteau? The text accompanying your photo seems... taciturn? But, your skills as a photographer have really grown over the years. Especially those close-ups!

(sorry for the delete, Xer ... you don't have edit capability, and I realized an error after I posted ... the following is the same reply, with the error corrected)

Thanks ...after seeing Pike's fantastic shots, I figured I'd share a few of my own. Yep, that's my scooter. I've been getting into doing more technical dives, and a scooter is pretty much mandatory for some of them. For recreational diving, it's a fun toy ... it'll get you places you might not get to see otherwise. The dive we did when that picture was taken was to about 210 feet in Lake Crescent ... the day was spectacular, and visibility was amazing. It's up there as one of my very best ever dive experiences. I wrote about it on my web site ... http://nwgratefuldiver.com/

I'll try to drop in more regularly. It's always nice to come visit friends I haven't seen in a while.

See! I am not the only person who quality control's his expressions, and deletes and reposts to clarify mistakes with which we don't want association.

I'll post more pics of climbs, if you post pics of your dives! That is an extraordinary world to me, and your captures on film are pure enlightenment.

I have pictures from some extraordinary climbs, like Denali, Ama Dablam, Yosemite, the Tetons, and Long's Peak. Give me an idea, because there are too many to post them all.

Just to give you a "hint," I garden, and one of my landscapes is this rockery mountain, made from rocks and boulders brought back from climbs. Each rock represents one climb. I know every rock, and where it was collected.

Wow!   Isn't the Internet fabulous?   Here I can encounter folks that do stuff I admire (but cannot do myself) and they can tell me their adventures, and even show me photos!!!!

Pikes climbs mountains, Bob dives deep water, Kitty visits far-off places, Xer and Wildfire go for awesome adventures, and OC ventures out and shares his wisdom with us!   Who else is so lucky to have such friends?

Love to you all (even if I didn't mention your name)

Pikes, I'd love to see any of those places you mentioned. I've been to some of them, but probably not in the same way you have. Spent some time in Denali, but didn't even get close to the Mountain.

I tried rock climbing in my younger days ... but I'm a short, fat guy, and climbing is for folks with more reach and less bulk than me. By the time I made it up this little wall, my forearms felt like Popeye.

But I love the mountains. Out here I still do a bit of day hiking whenever I can. The Cascades are beautiful ... and the northern Cascades are nicknamed the "American Alps" for a reason.

It's a magnificent world we live in ...

It sure is, Gryphon. Praised be to mighty Al Gore without whom we would all still be unplugged!

This is without a doubt a group of the most interesting people I've met online, and your balloon photos rank right up there with the best of 'em!

Lots'a love right back at'cha!

You can say that again, Bob. That's quite a slab there you shinned! How 'bout showing Pikes a pic of the Great Wall?

That is an excellent knife edge--- but where is your safety gear? No swami belt and harness, no visible rope, no protection? (ouch)

Pikes ... safety gear ??? ... I was young and invincible back then. Or maybe just stupid.

Xer ... not even sure what I did with those shots from China ... they're kickin' around somewhere. Perhaps on Cheng's computer.
