When I began climbing, John Salathe made Lost Arrow pitons, karabiners were Stubai steel from Austria, my preferred climbing shoe was the Kronhoffer, also Austrian, and our rope was goldline nylon.
How it's all changed!
My shoes are Asolo, rock shoes, hiking, and winter double boots, rope is kernmantle nylon that meets UIAA standards, My hardware are all hexes and stoppers. For many years, my attitude is if I can't climb something clean, not to climb it at all.
I don't do anything above 5.7 anymore either. I've climbed and lead 5.10 and 5.11 pitches, but those days are past. Age, and responsibilities.
I enjoy hiking and casual mountaineering more, Summits aren't important either. It is the experience that is meaningful.
