This is what Home Depot's founder Bernie Marcus said on a conference call yesterday:

"If a retailer has not gotten involved with this, if he has not spent money on this election, if he has not sent money to Norm Coleman and these other guys," Mr. Marcus said, apparently referring to Republican senators facing tough re-election fights, then those retailers "should be shot; should be thrown out of their goddamn jobs."

It's nice to know Home Depot supports the death penalty for not supporting their politics. The coming EFCA fight is going to be bloody.

Is it me, or are there more people saying "Vote my way, or go to helll"?   How about that Preacher that refused communion to those that "voted wrong."?

Careful with shopping at Lowe's, too, Jen.  I saw a propane heater on their website that was listed for $699 - "includes shipping."   When I drove to the closest Lowe's store,  which is about 40 miles from me, the exact same heater cost $350.50 (including tax!)   Since they do their OWN shipping delivery around here, that "shipping charge" seems a bit high to me!

I'm not shopping anywhere I don't have to any more.....

True...since I don't even HAVE  home anymore, shopping for that sort of thing won't happen for a while.

When our first local Home Despot store was built, part of the building was a large greenhouse. Fine. Great idea.

A number of years ago, in a brilliant management decision, they moved the tropical plants out of the greenhouse, and put them in the aisles during winter, or outside in summer. They use the space in the greenhouse for gas grills, lawn mowers and patio furniture.

The tropical plants in the aisles don't have adequate light, and "go down" fairly quickly. They hinder cart traffic, and are hit, kicked, bumped, knocked over, abused by children, and quickly become unsellable.

Those outdoors love the 10-20% Colorado humidity and the intense 14,000ft. candle sun that fries and dries them. Those become unsellable in one day exposed to that.

There comes a time when losses like that make the difference of remaining in business or not.

If other departments are managed as poorly, and why should anyone think otherwise, the real losers are the American shoppers, who make due with their shabby choices.

Not really crazy about Lowe's. Even less enamored of Home Despot.

Speaking of construction, our favorite BBQ place, Ranch House BBQ suffered devastation from a mudslide at the end of last year. Without any insurance they have managed to rebuild. Preparations were being made to open again soon when the place caught on fire last weekend. Holy BBQed restaurateurs Batman!

No, no one was hurt, but it sure sucks to be them. They had planned to reopen by Christmas.

Link: “It was going to be my Christmas present,?said Anderson.

Tapia said her first reaction when she found out about the fire was disbelief.

“To lose everything one time was, I thought, hard enough and now here we are, not even a year later, and we’ve lost it all over again,?she said.
