You know, I've always been struck by how hardy the body is and at the same time how frail it can be. Tomorrow is the third anniversary of the car wreck that claimed my dad. Truth is, he was a shitty driver that took risks he shouldn't have taken. He'd had 6 bypass surgery and recovered, sustained all sorts of funky injuries working on the farm...and it's an auto accident that gets him. But when I consider all that the body withstands, fighting off disease, regenerating (think of all the times our cells reproduce WITHOUT mutating or turning cancerous), moving about in dangerous environments...there is an element of luck or chance or whatever you want to call it. So...let's embrace our educated dumb luck, and not waste a moment. to Xer and Cooter...glad you guys are still dancin the globe. |
