Jen, you had good training, that I believe the vast majority of Amurcan kids nowdays DON'T get. Piano, along with guitar and harp, is different because of the ability to command SATB voicings together. They teach numbers, letters, everything BUT solfege, and make it vastly more complex than it has to be, probably because many of them don't really "get" it either.
