Title: God Remembers
Topic(s): God's Care
Scripture:
Psalm 9:12, 1 Chronicles 16:14-15, Psalm 111:5, Colossians 1:13-14, Isaiah 49:15-16, Isaiah 43:25

Someone said, "We invite defeat by forgetting what we should remember and remembering what we should forget." That's certainly true of humans, but not of God. Let's take a look at what God forgets, and what He remembers.

What Does God Say?

"I, even I, am the one who wipes out your transgressions for My own sake,
and I will not remember your sins" (Isaiah 43:25, NASB).

He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins (Colossians 1:13-14, NKJV)

?What does God forget?

?What is the basis for this "forgetfulness"?

"For He who requires blood remembers them;
He does not forget the cry of the afflicted" (Psalm 9:12, NASB).

"He has given food to those who fear Him;
He will remember His covenant forever" (Psalm 111:5, NASB).

"He is the LORD our God;
His judgments are in all the earth.
Remember His covenant forever,
The word which He commanded to a thousand generations" (1 Chronicles 16:14-15, NASB)

?What does God remember?

?For how long will God remember?

My Thoughts

God's "forgetfulness" doesn't come cheap--it cost Him the life of His Son. But through His blood, our sins are not only forgiveness, but they are forgotten--they will never be brought up against us.

The flip side of this is that God will never forget us! In speaking of Jerusalem, God says in Isaiah 49:15-16,
"Can a woman forget her nursing child,
And not have compassion on the son of her womb?
Surely they may forget ,
Yet I will not forget you.
See, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands;
Your walls are continually before Me" (NKJV).

What makes you grateful for what God remembers?

My Part

God always remembers His people--but not their sins. Are you remembering something that God has forgotten? Ask God to help you confront this memory and then consign it to His eternal forgetfulness. Then make a list of three things that God remembers about you (for example, God remembers that you've accepted His Son as your Savior). When the negative memories surface, deliberately replace them with the things that God remembers.
