Today's Scripture *November 26, 2008*

Proverbs 29:15
To discipline a child produces wisdom,
But a mother is disgraced by an undisciplined child.

Parents of young children are often weary of disciplining them. They feel like all they do is nag, scold, and punish. When you're tempted to give up and let your children do what they want, or when you wonder if you've ruined every chance for a loving relationship with them, remember that kind, firm correction helps them learn, and learning makes them wise.
I am far from an expert on child rearing; but God has blessed me with the experience of His Word and using it to raise our now 14 years old daughter.
One day Ashley came home from a friends house and she gave me one of those bear hugs! And she said, "Thank you mom for loving me enough to not let me do everything I want!". It was the words that as parents, we long to hear. Children want to know that their parents care! They want to know that we love them so much that we will step in when they are heading down a dangerous road. That we will be watching them, correcting them, guiding them. As our Heavenly Father does for us, so we should be doing for our children!
Consistent, loving discipline will ultimately teach them to discipline themselves.

Heavenly Father, guide us as we parent our children.
Help us to use loving, yet firm discipline.
May we protect them, nurture them, lead, and teach them according to Your perfect will.
In Jesus' Name, Amen..

God bless you,
April
