Today's "Marriage" Scripture *November 29, 2008* by Jason Hunt

1 Corinthians 13:4
Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud

To have success in marriage it is very important to learn how to communicate with one another, including how to enter into aggressive negotiation ( argue ).

I learned after years of hurting April when we would argue how to apply Paul's exortation about love to our communication. The results have been a great strengthening in our relationship as we are quickly able to get to the root of the matter without petty words and assumptions hindering us. Apologies come much quicker and peace restored.

As per 1 Corinthians 13:4

Love is Patient...Are you patient? Do you think before you speak?

Love is Kind...Are you kind? The way Jesus was kind?

It does not envy...Do you encourage others? Are your words uplifting and edifying?

It does not boast...Do you do things for others without recognition? ( In Christ's name)

It is not rude...Are your words gentle and 'marinated' in love?

It is not self-seeking...Do your ambitions overshadow the encouragement and hopes you have for others?

It is not easily angered...When you become angry is it righteous anger? Would Jesus be angered by it?

It keeps no records of wrong...Do you forgive easily? How easily do you forget?

Love does not delight in evil but rejoices in the truth...Do the activities you are involved in bring glory to God?

It always protects...Do you protect those you love?At times even from themselves with loving accountability?

Always trusts...do you trust their intentions to be good? Always hopes...Do you talk with eternal purposes in mind?

Always perseveres...Persue peace, solutions and restoration at all costs.

Pray this Scripture with one another and replace the word love (it) with your name, Make a vow to each other that your words will be marinated in love.

Loving Father, help us to humble ourselves to love like You do. Reveal Your heart to us as we read Your Word. May we all love our spouses enough to speak to one another with tenderness. In Jesus' Name. Amen.
