Nutty O's

1 cup packed brown sugar
1 cup dark corn syrup
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter or margarine
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
12 cups Cheerios-type cereal
2 cups chopped walnuts, pecans, and/or almonds
1 6-oz package dried cranberries

In a saucepan over low heat, mix up the first six ingredients and heat until the sugar is dissolved. Pour this over the cereal/nut mixture and stir until everything is evenly coated. (It's a large amount, so you might need two bowls.) Spread the mixture onto well-greased baking sheets. Bake at 325°F for 15 minutes. Loosen a bit with a spatula, then let cool for about 10 minutes before removing from pans. Store in air-tight containers.

Notes: I ran low on dark corn syrup one day, so I used a half-and-half mix of corn syrup and honey. Tasted good! You can use raisins instead of cranberries, but I hate raisins, plus the berries make it look more festive. Try the apple-cinnamon or honey-nut Cheerios instead of the plain ones. Really yummy! Btw, 12 cups = one big box or a couple of small boxes, or something. I don't really measure.
