Did I listen to the message?
It didn’t take long for me to get yet another new car and get back into a regular routine. I kept working and having fun. I decided to stop dating the Jewish guy. I don’t know exactly why, but I just didn’t feel it was right.
I did start playing music again. A friend of mine taught private flute lessons and I would go with her and her students to play Christmas music for the people who were in nursing homes and hospitals.
A few months later I woke up to quite a shock. My eye had dropped down about an inch. I went to work that day and set up a doctors appt. The next morning my dad thought it looked worse so he took me to the emergency room. I was admitted right away.
I got poked and prodded. I had MRI’s, CAT Scans, Brain Scans, this test and that test. They took pictures and notes, asked questions and hmmmm and hawwww ‘d a lot. They said they didn’t know what was wrong or where it came from or for that matter how bad it would get. They told me the only way to determine what it was would be to operate and get samples. They said I could loose the sight in my right eye. They also said that it was a dangerous operation because they would be opening up my skull and any little mistake?
I thanked him for being honest and told him I wasn’t worried. In reality I was very scared. I remember saying the smallest little prayer before they put me under. It was simply "God help me"
My mother came down to be with me during the surgery. I went through a 12 hour surgery the next day. They ended up removing my orbital bone, my forehead, and a portion of my upper skull. They were able to rebuild my orbital bone using my hip and my forehead with 2 of my ribs. They decided that had been enough for one day. I sould have to go back in a couple of months so they could rebuild my upper skull using 2 more ribs.
When I got out of surgery my mom told me that a guy named Michael stayed with her the whole time I was in the operating room. Knowing my mom, they were probably praying the whole time too. I had met Michael at the club I went to but we never talked or anything.
I know that God guided the doctors?hands those days. Not only was I alive and well, but I looked just the way I did before I went in (with a little less hair)?and I had 20/20 vision!
Several of my friends came to visit me in the hospital; they brought me homemade lasagna, cakes and even beer. I thanked them, and I was glad for their concern, but it was when Michael came to see me that I was the happiest. In fact, I started seeing Michael after that day.
I know I said there were only 5 chapters that I was going to write. But there is one more that I will write when the time is right.
