Last night, Dancer§ posted some very useful information regarding Multiply.com. At the time we removed it due to our normal rules on links to groups. After discussion, we have decided to make an exception under these special circumstances, this doesn't mean we are suspending the rule completely though, so please don't post links to individual groups or personal sites.

I will try to post this at several of the groups I am a member of, so if you are a member of the same groups here at MSN that I am, you may see this here more than once.  I will try to ADD to the information and answer any questions someone might have in those threads as well...

Yes it appears to be true.  Msn Groups are closing and partnering with Multiply.com to enable a transition to Multiply's social networking service from Msn.  I have a group here on Msn, and am a member of many groups here, as well as I have been a member of Multiply for years, where I admin the support groups there.  I am not on Staff at Multiply.  I do assist with support there however so I'm familiar with both services.  At this time, migration and exporting of your content (the details) are not finalized yet, but will be forthcoming.  But here is some information that might assist you right now.

User ID's at Multiply can only be used once.  If you open a Multiply account and then cancel it, you will have to use a different User ID the next time. (This is the what you sign up with, and you choose it as long as it is available and not in use)  This cannot be changed so choose carefully. It will appear in the url of your personal site as well.

Group urls work the same way.  If you create a group, choose carefully, as you cannot change it.  You CAN change your group name however.

At Multiply you get your own site as well as the ability to create and join existing groups.  And Multiply is FREE with the ability to post UNLIMITED content to include photos (something that you have limits here with) Photos at Multiply not only have thumbnail views, but ZOOM up to 1200 x 1200.   So any use of photos for hotlinking at Multiply using Multiply stored photos (either privately or publicly) works great.

Once you register at Multiply.com, make SURE you go to your valid email, locate the Welcome email  you will receive back after registering and click on the confirm link or you will not be able to access all of the features.  One feature in settings is setting your USER NAME.  This CAN be changed at any time.  (Real first name, nicname, etc.  I do not recommend using your last name.  It's a required field.  Put in a space instead although ONLY your contacts can see your last name or members of a private group.

You must know another users exact User Name, User ID or email address  EXACTLY to invite them to be a contact or invite them to a group.  Make sure you have all of this information before your group closes if possible.

There will be announcements at Multiply regarding where MsN users can meet up.  Most likely a group will be set up for just this purpose, since email addresses aren't always shared in a group here, (it's not recommended)

Your new Inbox at Multiply has Staff Blog announcements in the right rail, so watch for them there.  The inbox is not email!  It's your feed of all content from your groups or contacts.  So you never have to clean it out or remove anything.

You may choose from a multitude of contact relationships, from friends, family designations, to online buddy.  You can set permissions for each post you do, so that only those you give permission can see your contact OR.. you can post publicly.  Home pages and Groups work very similar but there are differences.    I have more information to add to this thread and will try to answer any questions also.  I will post links to support groups also in this thread.

Be sure that after you confirm your email, go into your settings and get that taken care of first.  Click on everything.   Set everything up there first.  Be SURE to enable advanced posting options while there so you don't miss any of the extra features.

Multiply and the users there will work very hard to assist all users with migrating over, for those that wish to do so to include supporting the exporting of your group content from MsN to Multiply.  Details on that will be forthcoming as it's made available.

Here is my homepage at Multiply with public content that you can view for those interested in taking a peek.  Feel free to click on everything there.  My private content is protected and it's one of the great features at Multiply.  You can designate post by post who sees what.  You can look in all of the following groups as well without registering.  When you register if you choose to do so, you can then join these groups by clicking on JOIN under the group logo (on your homepage it's called the headshot)

Here is the User support group for feature questions and issues:

Here is the Newbie group for new members.

Here is the Design group for learning how to design your own site and group:

Here is the Theme group where you can get customized themes, thousands and thousands of them (all FREE) and for asisstance with using them, the Design group will be glad to assist you.  (This group is for theme pick up only and does not offer support so be sure and see the Design group for that including the getting started links on the homepage).

Here is the Developers group.  This is Multiply's own Developers' group where members can make suggestions for future features.

And finally here is the Staff blog, Multiply's OWN homepage where announcements are made and you are alerted to on your new inbox.

Oh and another important note:  In Settings (this is important) .. SET your email alerts when you first join as well as after you join any group so that you don't inadvertently flood your own inbox with posts from very active groups.  You have MANY settings to choose from there.

Next, you can click on customize under your headshot, change your headshot, choose a base theme, edit your content etc.  Once you post content, you will see your navigation bar reflect that you now have photos, videos, etc (as mine shows)

Its' difficult to tell you everything but I suggest glancing through the tutorials in the blog sections of the groups which is usually where you will find those (notes are usually reserved for questions in the support groups)

I'll monitor this post, and will try to answer your questions.

Linda

MORE:

Also please note, that it is NOT necessary that you create your new group at Multiply right away.  You can join, and concentrate on becoming familiar with your own personal site first, inviting your friends, designing it, etc.  Joining the support groups, and spending some time browsing the tutorials in those.

So there is NO rush on your group creation yet.  As soon as there is more information on exporting your content to Multiply (or importing it to Multiply) you will see announcements on your inbox about this.

A couple of the features you are really going to enjoy at Multiply.  One is called Live replies.  EVERY post once posted, or any comment on that post becomes an open "live" chatroom so to speak.  Once you post, just leaving it the thread (browser window open to that thread) will result in the comments (replies) updating live as they are posted - no refreshing the page!

Another great feature is the viewing history.  For every post you make on your own site and every post you make (as the author) on any group - you will see exactly WHO views it on Multiply!  You will see their headshot, user name and user ID and can check them out on their site just by clicking on it (Your viewing history is at the bottom of each page and on your homepage - only you can see YOUR viewing history)

Headshots/User Id's have what is called a miniprofile (sometimes referred to as the minipop or minipoptart by some), which, when single clicked on in a thread or viewing history, pops up showing you more about that user before you go to their site as well as options.  You will also notice on your homepage "page hits" as some call them.  It's the statistics of who has visted your site, which pages, etc. (the actual numbers of logged in users).

I'll continue to add information to this thread, and feel free to post questions or link to it from another group.

AND MORE:

LOL  !!  I just saw a typo in my last reply - At Multiply you can edit your posts or comments (replies) if you do what I just did.  You may also remove any post or comment you make in any group.  You have total control of what you post there.
