?B>A man's pride will bring him low, But the humble in spirit will retain honor.?Proverbs 29:23
“The Bible says: ‘Pride goeth before a fall.?The Bible says: ‘God resists the proud.?Pride, by definition, is an exaggerated opinion about yourself. Paul says for us not to think of ourselves more highly than we ought. He is saying that the pride factor produces a spiritual cancer that destroys your function in the Kingdom of God.
It was Adam's pride that drove Adam and Eve out of the Garden of Eden. Satan came to Eve and said, ‘Would you like to be like God??And she instantly said, ‘Why not??And the rest of the story is told in the 66 books of the Bible.
Pride motivated Cain to murder his brother. God accepted his brother's sacrifice but not his. Joseph's brothers sold him into slavery because of pride. He was the snot-nosed kid with the bright sports coat. His brothers said, ‘Let's get rid of him!?and they did.
King Saul was driven by pride to throw his javelin at David, who was playing the musical instrument. The Pharisees hated Jesus, because Jesus had the mobs of people following Him and listening to Him and hanging on His every word. Religious pride drove them to enter into a murder conspiracy with the Roman Government to kill him.
The disciples, because of pride, were arguing with each other over who was going to be the greatest in the Kingdom of God. They were arguing literally over who was going to be Secretary of the State and they literally got their mothers involved in the argument! And Jesus said, ‘You don't know what you ask.?Because He said, ‘the people who follow Me in the kingdom are going to get killed.?They didn't get the big picture, but they wanted to be in the front seat. When they found out what the price was, Peter said, ‘I don't know the man!?
Pride goeth before a fall. Pride is a spiritual cancer. In a situation of that nature that whenever you have a broken relationship that needs to be repaired, pride won't let you do it, because you'd rather be right than reconciled. Pride does that. Pride goeth before a fall. God resists the proud. The Word of the Lord is very, very true. May the Lord add His blessing to the reading of the Word.??Pastor John C. Hagee
