It's hard because I love a puppy but I think my next Dane, who won't come along for many years may be a rescue.  What's your thoughts?

A rescue...always.  I don't have anything against those who choose to find good breeders and purchase puppies, but knowing there are SO many danes who have lost or never had loving homes will always point me towards rescue.  Cleo was still a puppy (5 months) when we rescued her.  My dane mix was probably about 3-4 months when we rescued him.  Rescuing is the ultimate way to "Go green!"

I'm not sure which we'd get. While it would be really cool to have a "relative" of Barrett (if we got another puppy we'd probably go back to Barrett's breeder), it would also be nice to give a rescue a good home. I think a lot also depends on where we're at in life. If when we decide to get another dane (it's going to be at least another 2-3 years!) we're also deciding to have a skin kid or have a baby, we'd probably look into getting a rescue since a puppy would only add to the stress of having a baby and that wouldn't be good for any person or puppy involved!

Rescue.  I'm waiting now to find out if I get hired for another job.  If I do, I will have to go to the hospital to work for 6 months.  If I don't, I'm going to look into getting a foster.  If I get the job, after 6 months when I can come back home to work, I'll look into getting a foster then.

Since Parker is my first I am not sure what I'll do next time.  I really want another Basset first.  But my DH doesn't seem on board with that :-(

But as for rescue, I'm down for that.  It will all just depend where I am at ..like a different house than this little one, what other dogs are in tow and it's health.  Being disabled myself, but abled at the same  time (?? I'm just crazy obviously) I have to make sure it's a dog that is trained and docile.   Well, as docile as Parker which isn't that calm.  LMAO.  I guess I'm just saying it'll depend on life circumstances on what I would do.

Maybe you'll get lucky like we did and find a puppy rescue! All but wo of our 7 are rescues and three were puppies.

It is hard for me to say...since I have both currently. I would like to get another show Dane in the future, but I'm not closed to another rescue either.

I am a hopeless case! I fall in love with anything that has four legs. Cat, dog, puppy, kitty, pure-bred, Heinz 57... it really doesn't matter. Luckily, I am married to a man who is much more practical than I am. So, what will I have next? Whatever hubby lets me have!

wow its tought, I think Gracie is soooo well adapted to our lifestyle and what we want and expect out of a dog because she was raised with it. We have rescued two dane, unfortunatly we had to rehome Dutchess due to her constant fights with Gracie but I found her the MOST awesome home ever she was older and went to a house with an older male and were like an old couple. And we actually had this dicussion today in the car, because of Tank, being a year and a half he is still technically a puppy but he is as big an adult dog, so we thought well maybe we shouldn't get another rescue. We still aren't sure where we sit on this. Hubby loves how great Gracie has become, but like I told him there was a time that Gracie frustrated him too

Ha Ha Tessa,
you're killing my eyes.  With my reading glasses on I had to get out a magnifying glass to read your response, lol,]
