I have no problems with cropping (obviously, since Barrett's cropped!) BUT I have a lot of conditions and stipulations that go with it. I wouldn't recommend that just anyone get their dane cropped. In fact, I do my best to deture them from it and make sure they know all the work involved, the potential problems if not done right, etc. If after hearing all the negatives they are still wanting to do the crop, then I tell them all the tips and tricks we learned while caring for Barrett's crop. I'm not totally sure we will crop any future danes we own. Only because by the time we get another dane, the vet that cropped Barrett's ears will most likely have retired (he's like 65 years old). He was Brandon's dad's neighbor when he was a kid and has raised, bred, and provided vet care for danes for almost 30 years. If he didn't crop, Barrett would more than likely have floppy ears! There is only 2 ways we'd have any future danes cropped - if the vet that cropped Barrett was still practicing, or if he highly recommended someone to do the cropping. |
