:: five fifteen am ::
all is silent except for a faint ringing noise cutting through the quiet. as we are brought into the bedroom of romeo mariabella the sound becomes more and more distinguished. it is now revealed to be an alarm clock, obviously set to wake the sleeping teacher to prepare and ready himself for work. apparently mr. mariabella must of stayed up past his bed time for he still slumbers even with the annoying sound echoing through out his condo.

eventually romeo begins to stir as the sound begins to slowly wake him. he lets out a low groan before slapping a hand down onto the alarm clock, shutting it off. he rubs his face then sets up on the bed taking a look around. sqeenching his eyes in the process as the sun shines brightly through his bedroom window. he gets up and heads straight for the bathroom where he bathes and dresses for work. afterwards he walks downstairs to the kitchen where he has a cup of cappuccino and eats a bowl of cereal. he flips on the news and sits as is watching it briefly before glancing at the clock. quarter til six; his first class starts in about an hour.

:: seven twenty am ::
romeo had just stepped foot into the teachers lounge as did another couple king green associates.

[random staff member] why mr. mariabella aren't you here a wee bit early? for i do recall that eventhough class starts soon none of your students will be in for another hour or two.

being used to these types of comments referring to his teaching methods romeo pays no mind to the person nor the others nearby that overheard and are now snickering. he pours himself a cup of coffee and exits the room on his way toward his class. once there he unlocks the door and sets the mug onto his desk before taking a seat. he is about to pull a folder out of his brief case when he hears the door open and looks up to see...

Paul looked up at Romeo, surprised to see him there as he produced a paper.

"Well good morning Mr. Mariabella. Surprised me to see you here. Most teachers are still into their starbucks trip." he smiled as he handed him the staff meeting reminder. "Good to see such enthusiasm."

[ romeo mariabella ] eh starbucks is overrated anyway.

[ paul james ] i agree.

[ romeo mariabella ] as for my so-called enthusiasm, i appreciate the compliment but i'm just doing my job.

romeo grasps ahold of his coffee cup and takes a sip or two before placing it back down onto his desk and returning his attention to paul.

[ romeo mariabella ] in the few short years that i have been doing this i've learned that teaching is one-fourth preparation and three-fourths theater. which means i have to get here before my students just to prepare for their arrival and once they arrive that year i spent in acting school gets put to good use. that's the thing about high school students, they're not like the middle and elementary kids. they're a lot more complex.

[ paul james ] as they should be.

[ romeo mariabella ] you have to learn to explain the lessons to them in a way that they understand and the only way a teacher can actually do that is by being in their students' shoes and truly understanding who their students are. a lot of teachers tend to see me doing that and assume i'm only trying to befriend my students but i'm not. i'm doing my job; i'm teaching. plus it doesn't hurt to get along with your students in the process.

[ paul james ] that's the problem with most teachers nowadays. they don't allow their students to actually learn. they shove all these facts and numbers down their throats and expect the kids to remember it all. when if they did it say, your way, the students would probably remember what they learned without even trying because they'd recall the fun they had.

[ romeo mariabella ] exactly. it's nice to know that somebody around here agrees with me.

[ paul james ] yes i heard the other teachers aren't too fond of you and your techniques. instead of worrying about what and how you're doing your job perhaps they should actually see the affect you have on these children and learn a thing or two. i know a couple of them that could use a few tips. just seems to me like the majority of teachers don't care about their students anymore. they only come here because they have to. it wasn't like that when i was child. the teachers cared about their students, they inspired us.

[ romeo mariabella] as did mine. things change, people change. teaching...it's not a lost art but the regard. the regard for it, is a lost tradition.

Paul nodded. He'd seen a lot of how teaching had become here in Los Angeles. It was like they were working more for the paycheck rather than actually educating the kids.

"Well the kids sure seem to like your method of teaching. I've had a few of them come from your class to mine boasting about how fun it was or what's in store next. I'd say you really have them, Romeo. I think it's great you still respect the regard and the love of it." he paused and sighed at the thought.
"I'd hate to think of how these kids would be if all teachers were like that."
