The Hard Road

Forever I am destined to rise up against the perils of man

This is not some seeming daydream lost on summer days

But a fight to survive these obstacles placed in my path

Some are destined to heal the weak and comfort the sick

Long ago I turned from any such distinction

Into a world of sacrifice and demand cruelly placed upon sore shoulders

Sometimes I tell myself that the cost outweighs any benefit

Then I see the smile of my Daughter

She cannot be as jaded as I

Nor should I ever share that burden with her

For there is innocence in that smile of pure love

Never should she know this hard road I walk of light and shadow
