Mothers raise money for MadeleineA group of mothers from Lisburn have come together to raise money for the Madeleine McCann
Fund. The 50-strong United Mothers group was formed as a result of the child's disappearance in Portugal 19 days ago.
As well as hosting a fundraiser, they are urging all Northern
Ireland primary schools to have a 'yellow ribbon day', to support Madeleine's family.
The campaign's Aine Elmore said that rather than just thinking about what happened, they wanted to take action. "I have a daughter who's three months younger than Madeleine. I wake up in the night thinking about her and to check on her," she said.
"I can really feel for the McCann family and think 'what are they going through?' and rather than sitting thinking about it let's do something about it - let's try and get Madeleine back home.
"Mothers were standing at the school gate and thought let's get together and raise some money for the Madeleine
Fund."
A website set up to find the missing child has received around 100 million hits and 50,000 messages of support since its launch on Wednesday.
