Martin Brunt

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jump to: navigation, search

Martin Edward Brunt (born Camberley, Surrey, England, on 5 February 1955) is crime correspondent for Sky News who joined the channel for its launch in 1989.

After studying magazine journalism at the London College of Printing (now the London College of Communication) in the early 1970s, he joined the editorial staff of Power Laundry and Cleaning News, owned by the International Publishing Corporation (IPC), in London.

From there he was taken on as a junior reporter with the Chatham News and Chatham Standard newspapers in Kent and after training under editor Gerald Hinks left to join a news agency in Devon, followed by the Ferrari Agency in Dartford, Kent. From there he moved to the Sunday Mirror and became chief reporter before being asked to join Sky News.

Early exclusive coverage included the Iraqis' retreat from Kuwait in the first Gulf War.

Later, Brunt was first to break news of the death of Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother in 2002 and the murder of television presenter Jill Dando in 1999.[citation needed]

In 2005, he was first to report that the July 7 explosions in London were the work of terrorists.[citation needed]

Brunt has also reported from South Africa on the murder inquiry into "Adam", an unknown boy whose torso was found in the River Thames in 2001.

Brunt's investigative skills can bring comment from other media. Hugo Rifkind reported grudgingly in The Times of 22 December 2006:

"High praise for the Sky News crime correspondent Martin Brunt. When a hack from (another) newspaper phoned Suffolk police press office with a query on the serial killer case, he was told: 'Call Martin Brunt. He knows everything before we do.' A little concerning."

Is Brunty Starting To See The Light?

April 8

OoBubblesoO

I reckon Martin Brunt loves leaving coded messages for us to try working out :P Here's this morning's new Sky Blog topic:

"Clarence Mitchell says the McCanns want to go back for a Crimewatch-style reconstruction of the tapas bar dinner, and only if it's televised, but they won't return while they are still arguidos.

Their suspect status is unlikely to change anytime soon, but how will it look if they refuse to go and help the police in the continuing search for clues to Madeleine’s disappearance?

Perhaps the McCanns?lawyers will ask for an assurance the couple won't be arrested.

I doubt the police would be prepared to offer such a deal... one top official wanted to arrest Kate McCann back in September, apparently, but was overruled.

And I can't see the Portuguese cops inviting along the television cameras to a reconstruction.

They would rather shave off their moustaches. I hear Paulo Rebelo, the detective in charge, has grown his back for his current trip to Leicestershire."

What do you make of that? Getting a little cynical there Martin?

I posted this on Martin Brunt's site and it actually got published. well that's a first for me.

What is it about this arguido status, that's all that seems to bother the Pink one? Making someone an arguido is not a punishment but a protection which allows the suspect to have legal representation and not to have to answer questions. This status seems vastly more important than their daughter's welfare. If they truly think Madeleine is being held by a paedophile gang in spain they should be on the first plane over to Portugal, hammering on the doors of the police station and begging to help.
But they're not, they're in good enough health to fly to America and also Belgium but Kate may be too frail to fly to Portugal!!! If this had happened in America there feet wouldn't have touched the ground, they'ld have been in jail on charges of abandonment and yet they quote USA Amber alert system as if it's a proof against bad parenting. The only people responsible for Madeleine McCann's disappearance are her parents, that child was failed by the two people she should have been totally able to rely on. Madeleine appears to have taken a back seat and it's wrong. Kate and Gerry should go back to Portugal, answer the questions and give the world a statement saying the best way to keep children safe is not to leave them alone. Now that would be a first.
