Murat Lover's Alibi Doubts
Nov 24 2007
THE alibi given by the lover of Madeleine McCann suspect Robert Murat for the night she vanished looked blown apart last night.
Michaela Walczuch claimed she was at a Jehovah's Witness meeting when the four-year-old was snatched in Portugal in May.
However, a church elder claimed the organisation had kicked her out before then.
Brother Teofilo Castela said: "Michaela was thrown out.
There was some problem with the rules, she was cast aside.
"It was a long time ago, it was before this year. The church has certain rules and they must not be broken."
Walczuch's lover Murat was named as an official suspect soon after Madeleine vanished from her family's flat in Praia da Luz.
A friend of Walczuch had claimed this week that she was at a prayer meeting on the night the child disappeared - and that cops had investigated and verified her story.
But Castela said: "I haven't been interviewed by the police."
Detectives are investigating claims expat Murat and Walczuch, both 34, were involved in the abduction.
There have been two alleged sightings of Walczuch with a blonde child shortly after the disappearance.
The twist came as tests proved Kate McCann, 39, was not on anti-depressants when her daughter went missing.
She and husband Gerry have also been named as suspects, with police claiming Kate - struggling to cope - had accidentally killed Madeleine with an overdose of sedatives and then covered it up.
But tests on hair samples from the couple's other children, two-year-old twins Sean and Amelie, found no sign of sedatives in their bodies.
