My personal thoughts for the record...
(Just my opinion and therefore not sourced)
I believe Maddie died ( the reason...a separate issue) the night of May 2 or early morning May 3.
- From what I understand, Madeleine did not go to the creche the morning of the 3rd.
- The maid was not allowed entrance the morning of 3rd to clean.
- Scent on Kates jeans (hopefully from a last cuddle) so maybe during 'colder' hours
They spent the day cleaning and working out the plan
- Gerry feigned an achilles heel to account for not being at tennis
- the sniffer dogs detected scent over towards the supermarket..(maybe someones shoe had come in contact with the scent?)
- Sniffer dogs detected scent in nearby friends apartment....Maddies body moved..(in tennis bag?)
The McCanns got together on 3rd with the tapas 7 to figure out a plan
- None of the tapas went on the search leading me to believe they knew it was not worthwhile and therefore knew
- Diane Webster did not rush away from the table..maybe she knew
They arranged to go to the tapas as normal and act out their plan
- At this point they were not concerned about the 'checks' they had to get the 'abduction' theory in place
- Jane Tanner was not acknowledged as 'arriving' at the tapas, but I don't believe the 'plan' included seeing 'bundleman' or that would have been one of the first things to have been pointed out.
- Gerry maybe left to 'jemmy' the shutters but was interrupted by 'Jes'
- Gerry arrived back 9.25pm and asked ROB to fix the shutters and he left 5 minutes later 9.30pm (with?)
- They were unaware that the shutters were impossible to jemmy (as told by MW) and hence the 14 text messages back and forth between ROB and Gerry.
- Finally ROB returned at 9.55pm...unable to complete the 'set up' of the shutters.
- Kates 'cue' was to leave when ROB returned...but they had failed to tell her the shutters were not jemmied.
- She arrived at the apartment and, without checking, claimed abduction because the shutters were jemmied.
- Once it was realised they were not touched they changed their 'locked door' story to 'unlocked' to allow the possibility of an abductor to enter.
I believe that they consider all the accusation of 'neglect (for that night) as a trade off for what really happened.
- They seem to find it impossible to feel guilt for leaving the children alone that night, resulting in Maddie's disappearance...reason is...Maddie was already dead...they didnt leave their children that night for any length of time...and nothing happened because of it...and they can't bring themselves to be accused of something they are NOT responsible for (causing Maddies abduction)
It was imperative to tell the world of the abduction before too many questions were asked...hence, when Kate has screwed up her lines and mentioned about the jemmied shutters (that werent)...Sky news became more important than the PJ...and they had cleaned up...they didnt need time to sort that out.,...but they DID need time to reassess how they would deal with the screw up....so it was a while before they called the PJ..
They had to synchronise their story...
