This post is not intended to be anything new, these issues have been discussed before, some of the discussions have been lost in thread deletions. I've just pulled together some information in a "review"

The thing that has intrigued me most in the last 2 months has been the statement that the mccann villa was searched while they were on the Huelva trip BEFORE the Murat property search. It offers an insight into the way the investigation was being run during early July.

I have cobbled together the following timeline of the investigation from various sources, some named. Most are direct quotations from PJ, as reported in the press.

3rd May
Madeleine Mccann reported "kidnapped", "abducted" "snätched from the bed" of her holiday apartment in PDL.

4th May

MAY 14
In the first major development, police launched a search at the home of Anglo-Portuguese man Robert Murat, just 100 yards from where Madeleine disappeared. Mr Murat was taken in for questioning and made an "arguido" or formal suspect, the next day. He said he was being made a "scapegoat" in the investigation.

15th May
A British father named yesterday as the first official suspect in the kidnapping of Madeleine McCann broke his silence last night to deny his involvement.

25th May "British experts have flown to the Algarve to re-examine the scene of Madeleine McCann's abduction, Portuguese police said" (express, groan)

25th May "A "witness" reported seeing a man carrying "an object that could have been ... a child" in the Algarve village of Praia Da Luz at 9.30pm on May 3 - while Madeleine's parents were finishing dinner nearby. A source indicated that the sighting - the most striking so far in the case - was made by one of the couple's party who has not been named".

27th/28th May

Telecommunications experts from the UK are attempting to trace the movement of the abductor of Madeleine McCann by following a trail left by mobile telephone signals. (times online) (EDIT: 3/12/07)


June 1st
(on forensics samples) Duarte Nuno Vieira, president of the INML, said: “We still have a number of samples to process so the work will continue next week. We will try to do it as quickly as possible.�?

8th June -
Information provided by the man on Wednesday afternoon convinced British police, who are liaising with the Portuguese-led inquiry, that it was necessary to inform the McCanns immediately and to ask them to speak to the caller. It is not known what information convinced detectives that the caller was credible. The couple, from Rothley, Leicestershire, were contacted as they prepared to travel from meetings in Berlin to Tempelhof airport in the German capital for a private flight to Amsterdam. A beach towel found at a site being investigated as a possible burial location for Madeleine McCann has been handed to police. A friend of Madeleine’s parents said that she saw the girl wrapped in what appeared to be a blanket as she was carried away by a man from her Algarve holiday apartment. All four attended the headquarters of the Policia Judiciara on Wednesday, where they spent two hours in a room with detectives and Murat’s solicitor giving their differing versions of events.

"On Tuesday Keela, a springer spaniel sniffer dog from South Yorkshire police, was used to search the McCanns�?apartment".

A source close to the Portuguese police investigation said: “Murat was not the only person in the frame. Another man has been under surveillance for a period of time but has no idea that he is being watched.�?The man, who has since returned to Britain, is under suspicion because of contradictions in witness statements that he gave to police.


9th August
De Sousa "Police are following a new lead"

12th August
On the 100th day since the four-year-old went missing, Chief Inspector Olegario Sousa said new evidence had given “intensity�?to the possibility she had been killed.

August - FSS analysing forensic information

Summary
May - initial search finished, PJ had collected forensic evidence and sent for analysis

June - "north european male" DNA found - apart from that nothing in june except for the telegraaf letter (during this time we were led to believe that the PJ had no more leads and had taken to inviting psychics for ideas)
Most likely was that the PJ were working behind the scenes putting the pieces of the puzzle in the right order. (EDIT 3/12/07- this is looking increasingly likely based on information released in the last week)

July - Tapas 3 recalled, Murat intensive questioning, Showdown at Portimao, British dogs and team arrive

August - As soon as Mccanns leave the villa, PJ go in with the dogs, Murat property search follows, then Murat cars and Mccann apartment. I have not been able to pinpoint a date when the scenic was sniffed, nor when the dogs left (would appreciate input from others)Remainder of august, FSS analysing forensics.
(20/11/07 EDIT. Panorama casts doubt on the day of the villa search. We have two different documentaries which do not concur. Will search for further verification and update as and when)

September - some stuff happened regarding the PJ and the Mccanns.

20th September 2007
Portugese detectives visit a pet crematorium and question the owner. The animal incinerator is on a remote, rundown farm near the town of Monchique, less than 20 miles from Praia da Luz where Madeleine vanished on May 3.

October/ most of November - an unbelievable amount of spin and subterfuge.

28th November - A team representing the PJ including forensics scientists and detectives visit the FSS and Leicestershire police. The results of the visit will be added once known.

Questions:
It seems that the PJ, having had a false start, picked up the baton soon after.

JT statement about abductor sighting was made about 3 weeks after madeleine disappearance.

1 Why on earth did the PJ recall the T3 in July, who were certain they saw Murat, but not recall JT, who was certain she had seen an abductor(who lets face it, could only have been Murat, based on the other's claims)?
2 What were the PJ doing in June, when they led everyone to believe they had no ideas left? (EDIT well, we think we know the answer to that one now!)

What exactly was "cooked" or excluded during the showdown?,
if the rumours about a "tapas 2" changing their story are true, one of them is not JT, is it? Which leaves the 3 at the showdown.
