PUPILS at a Yarm school have raised funds to help in the search for missing Madeleine McCann.
The youngsters at Yarm Preparatory School were so moved by the plight of the missing four-year-old that they asked their headteacher if they could hold a mammoth cake sale.
Madeleine disappeared from the family's holiday apartment in the Algarve resort of Praia da Luz on May 3 as her parents ate dinner at a nearby restaurant. Since then, appeals have been set up to help widen the search for her.
With just 48 hours notice, mountains of cakes were swiftly made at the Teesside school and sold to friends at break-time.
In less than half an hour, the children had raised £125.
Alexander Gittens, Max Harrison and Alexander Blott, together with Sarah Willis and their friends, all aged 10, were delighted with the amount raised.
“We really wanted to do our bit to help,?said Alexander.
