Madeleine McCann: Oprah

MADDIE WATCH - Anorak’s at-a-glance guide to press coverage of Madeleine McCann

DAILY STAR: “MCCANNS?OPRAH WINDFALL?/P>

MADELEINE McCann’s parents are planning a big bucks interview with US chatshow queen Oprah Winfrey to boost their search fund.

They’ve cracked America. In yer face Barbara Walters.

It is understood Oprah, 54, would be willing to break the bank for a cosy chat with Kate and Gerry.

How the Star came to understand this is unsaid. But let’s look out for the “cosy chat?- the one performed before tens of millions of people. Who’s looking for the missing child? We’re watching the parents.

The New York Times seems to be a little sceptical of the District Attorney in question, and who can blame them following her earlier responsibility for the John Mark Karr debacle:

Prosecutor Defends Actions After Ramsey Case Falls Apart

‘District Attorney Mary T. Lacy on Tuesday defended her decision to send her investigators halfway around the globe to arrest a man in the 1996 murder of JonBenet Ramsey, after the case collapsed Monday on the disclosure that DNA tests did not link him to the killing.?/P>

‘Ms. Lacy is facing a storm of criticism from scores of local residents who have been calling her and sending her e-mail messages to tell her she should be “tarred and feathered.?Gov. Bill Owens, a Republican, said that she should be “held responsible for the most expensive DNA test in Colorado history.?/P>

Of course, the New York Times has it’s own embarassments with Ms Lacy:

‘Reflection and Red Faces After the Ramsey Storm?/P>

‘It was a day of delicate backtracking for the news organizations and television programs that, two weeks earlier, had breathlessly announced the news that John Mark Karr had been arrested in the death of JonBenet Ramsey. News of Mr. Karr’s arrest had landed on the front pages of newspapers, including The New York Times, The Washington Post and The Los Angeles Times, and filled hundreds of hours on the cable talk shows that had obsessively covered the case from its beginning in 1996.?/P>

It’s probably safe to say that the latest claim is unlikely to put the conspiracy theorists to rest, not least because the FBI affadavits in the Brooke Bennett case disclose that her uncle, now under arrest for her kidnapping, had conspired to obtain a semen sample from another man to use as a false clue to implicate that person in her disappearance?/P>

BF, I’m not in the UK as you know. But, I would say that if it is today at 12, then you should have done one of two things :

    1. Appear in court to dispute
    2. Pay up before the court time

I would say that when the case is called and you are not there, they will see that it is still not paid, and immediately issue an arrest warrant (that’s how it works here anyway)

GO AND PAY!! Then at least if they turn up at your door, you can prove you’ve paid.

Over here, if you stay away from the court date, and you still haven’t paid the debt you are summonsed to court for, they immediately issue an arrest warrant, and you are in contempt of court as well!

Although they don’t immediately go out to arrest, there is then an arrest warrant out for you, and they can turn up at any time, depending on how busy they are!!

My question is, and will always remain (I asked Cheryl this a couple of days ago, but as usual she just ignores me!).

Where are the statistics of those children who were KILLED because the amber alert was triggered? There will never be statistics like this, because no-one will probably ever know but it is a very real thing!

In certain instances, if an abductor feels that the heat is getting too close to him, he will in all probability kill the child he has abducted. If an amber alert is triggered, this will happen much sooner IMO!

Oh, it’s one of those ideas that seem, on face value, to be warm and wonderful and a Thoroughly Good Thing.

If you talk to police officers specialising in missing children however, you get a different viewpoint.

Their concern lies in the fact that publicity can make an abductor kill a child who might otherwise be rescued; that is why we have no Amber Alert system in this country.

GEM COUNTY- Devin Nettleton, an 11-year old boy from Middleton, is missing in Gem County and officials say they’re close to issuing out an Amber Alert after searching for him overnight. He reportedly went missing Wednesday afternoon.

Officials from several agencies searched for him overnight a couple of miles west of Highway 16, which is north of the Firebird Raceway and south of the Black Canyon canal. They expect to resume their search this morning at dawn.

Gem County Dispatch says the boy has been missing since sometime Wednesday afternoon. Dispatch is using at least two helicopters and all-terrain vehicles to aid in their search.

    ——————————————?/P>

I don’t think Cheryl was deliberately ignoring you; she was just in a bit of tizz about those wicked police officers, and the Soca, and the Attorney General, encouraging the howling wolves at the McCanns?door.

The point you make is entirely valid; that’s why the police here are adamantly opposed to it.

There is no evidence that the Amber Alert saves lives; indeed, its?mere existence may divert police officers from good old fashioned policing where they actually investigate what has happened, with particular reference to the blindingly obvious suspect standing right in front of them.

A few days back Cheryl claimed that the issuing an Amber Alert in the Brooke Bennett case had enabled the police to crack the case.

That was completely untrue; the Amber Alert played into the hands of the man who had kidnapped her, her uncle.

Whom she was last seen with.

The guy who had been convicted and jailed for the kidnapping and multiple rape of an 18 year old girl.

Brooke Bennett is, of course, dead.

I don’t think the police here want any ’successes?of that sort?/P>

It goes on to say that:

‘The commission’s warning came after EU nations agreed on Tuesday to cooperate more closely in the hunt for lost children but could not endorse a Europe-wide alert system sought by the parents of missing British toddler Madeleine McCann.?/P>

I think this takes us back to JJ’s ’somebody should do something?point; demanding the introduction of the Amber Alert Scheme to Europe seems somewhat fatuous when 26 out of the 27 states haven’t even got it together to get the telephones up and running?/P>

Surely the media over there access the internet and will be able to get a feel of the publics opinion of the case. The smell of a rat is so strong, im sure it can be sniffed across the atlantic

    ___________
What is interesting is there are news updates on over here - links from those I’ve posted on here over the months - and those are quite matter of fact and present both sides of the ongoing tragedy. Early on I forget which morning news program had the story but with people on live to talk about it as John Walsh, the Smart family, another couple who had been accused of taking their child’s life but turned out they hadn’t - all stood behind the McCanns that they didn’t do it.

I know some US are posting on here flamming the fires against the McCanns but one would think the US nasties learned their lesson from over the Ramsey case. Do some research re that Ramsey case - some big payouts in law suits! To be honest, I never thought the Ramsey’s took their daughter’s life from the very beginning - same reason I have for saying the McCann’s didn’t - they loved their daughter and had no logical reason to take her life. BUT if you look at the Ramsey case from when it first happened there was more supposed evidence for people to think they were guilty versus NONE from the McCann case, except for negligence.

    Ah, the Ramsay case.

I fear that following the DA’s previous embarrassment on this case she is unlikely to be greeted with much in the way of confidence; the more serious media really don’t want to be embarrassed all over again.

The more serious media are also aware that in the Brooke Bennett case:

‘Prosecutors have also accused Jacques of planting evidence in an effort to misdirect the police investigation into Bennett’s disappearance. Torn underwear, a shoe and other items of clothing discovered near Route 65 in Brookfield had been placed there by Jacques, police say.

At least one of the items was stained with the semen of a juvenile boy. But authorities say Jacques instructed his juvenile accomplice to obtain the DNA evidence during a sexual encounter sometime before Bennett disappeared. Jacques then contaminated Bennett’s clothing with the sample, authorities say, to deflect police attention directed toward him.?/P>

The funny thing is.. isn’t this site meant to be ironic about the paper articles everyday and how they make a story out of nothing? and yet all you McCann haters believe everything you read and spend hours discussing it all. Ironic indeed. Who is having the last laugh!

    ___________

Maybe Oprah is the kind of person who will actually ask them to justify their attitudes towards chidlcare arrangements.

    ____________
Oprah had a very sad childhood - I can’t picture the McCanns being on her show even if all they are guilty of in their daughter’s disappearance is neglect. It would be a bad PR mistake,in my opinion anyhow.

    ___________-
If you would have read the post I posted the other night about the Amber Alert I said I had written and asked if any statistics on lives that may have been taken because of the Alert and haven’t had a response back yet. Further, if you’d read the Post I did post it was mentioned in it that they have found that many have been released right away when the perpetrator realized the Amber Alert was put out.

Once again you’ve baffled me with your BS on what you just said - what are you saying? Oh I forgot you know more than even judges know and stand in judgement on them - well look at the one link I posted re the Ramsey case and even a Federal Judge said the evidence didn’t point to them back in 2003.

Are you in permanent PMS or is this just your natural personality?
