Is there some secret I should know to removing the doors off of my Patrol?  My top pin is already broke, so as soon as I open the door it starts to fall off the hinge, so I just want to take it off while I am tinkering around with the thing.  I am not sure if I should just pound it out from the bottom or what.  Anybody know about this?

Thanks!

the door pins seize up with rust it will take a lot of WD40  but they will eventually free up. i had to take one of my old ones to a machine shop to have new ones made

Yes, but again I ask, how are they supposed to be removed? Assuming a
perfect world, and that they are not all rusted, is there any trick or
catch, or just beat them out from underneath? or from up top?

Thanks!

Michael

Michael,
I have a '69 L60. When I open my door, the top pin can be pull
up/out. The bottom pin is attached to the hinge of the truck, so it stays
in place when you lift the door up. I hope that is helpful. Let me know if
you need anything else.

Thanks
Chris

hey michael,
i took one look at my pins and said no.  i just unbolted the four bolts on each hinge and took the door off that way.  of course, remember the stopper on the bottom of the door.  there is a cotter pin there to take out, just in case you didn't know.

hey michael, i looked in my patrol service manual, out of curiosity, and it actually says to remove the hinges from the body so you are going in the right direction.  it worked great for me and looks nice with the top off and doors gone.

On my 74 Patrol you open the door at 90 degrees to the body and the door lifts off vertically, half the hinge is on the door and half on the body.

broken door hindges are very common on a old 60 series Patrol. As noted you can just lift them off which is how of mine is right now with the same problem. Good luck pounding them out though...all the ones I have fixed I had to drill out.

wd 40 the pin...once its loose...you have to remove the door opening limiter on bottom(if you still have it)..then open the door all the way..almost to the body...and at that point..you can wiggle it back and forth..pulling up on door at hinge area...and it will come off...but..door has to be open all that way(youll see if you dont..its like an interlocking tang that prevents it from coming off from being just oepened normally) pins should stay on body half of the hinge....if its broke..just tap old pin out...its easy..i did it with mine..and the hood hinges as well... paul :)

When I bought my 69 the pins had been removed and some long bolts installed....but they are loose.  Anyone know of of replacement for those stock pins?

any good machine shop can make the they are exactly the same lenght as the hinge and the lower
hinge hold pins via a crimp that way you lift up the door,s to remove and the pin stays constant

be shure to grease the heck out of them regularly
or they will get stuck in a hurry

I have no original pins to get a dimension from.  I guess I could take a door in.
