Well, I was just fixing to post a topic about this. Do you mind if I might hijack your thread?
What are you guys/gals using for bucket seats here in the USA?
I measured the seats in my 89 Chevy S-10. From the center of the front left mounting bolt to the center of the front right mounting bolt is 12". Ive heard this is the measurement for all compact vehichles with buckets OTHER THAN the Beretta's.
I then took the same measurement on the drivers side of my Patrol. 11-3/4" Such a small difference, that maybe simply making the mounting holes larger in the stock Patrol seat rail would make a set of GM buckets mount up.
As for the passenger side, the whole passenger bench would have to be removed. The left hinge would have to be moved several inches to the right, and new seat mounts made from 1"x1/2" box iron would be attatched to the stock hinges.
This is my idea, and I plan on going through with it VERY SOON! |

Here's a photo of some factory bucket seats that came in a late model 69, I've only seen one Patrol with the factory buckets, they are very comfy but dont have the lumbar support or headrest as modern bucket seats do. I had them professionally redone to match the original material and style, THEN my dog ate them while I was parked at the store! As for non-original buckets, I was planning on buying some older Mitsubishi Montero seats, I had an 88 and the seats were great and had the correct upright angle. Most pickups and cars are too declined and wont give you the right ergonomic angles. Another bonus of the Montero seats is that you can get them quite cheap, I've seen complete Monteros go for $200-300. obviously you'll need to have custom mounts made, but I doubt you'll find anything that will bolt directly in. |

I posted the photo of the factory bucket seat under the "ugliest Patrol" photo folder, somehow my attachement disappeared in the depths of cyberspace... |

Duane...those are not exactly buckets. There was no factory bucket in any P-troll from 1960-1980. There was an optional "deluxe" seating option that began in md to late 68. These deluxe seats are very very rare in the USA and are very close to the seats you have. It is the same style bench as stock, a split 30/70. Yet they all were silver and black, especially in the USA, later in production they were different and even had a headrest. I have seen 2 P-trolls in the USA with the deluxe seats, one is a grenn 68 in Denver and the other is a blue 69 in Souix Falls. I will put up a picture of the 69 that has the deluxe seats. I have 6 parts books and over 40 brochures and no buckets are shown anywhere....the deluxe seats are. As far as putting in some buckets I agree nothing going to bolt in unless you can find some 25 year old Recaros out of Oz! The thing to watch for when selcting buckets is the length of the butt part of the seat. Most sedans or other cars have to large of a seat and thus it puts your knees into the dash. I searched three junkyards to get the ones that I have in my 64. They are out of an early 90's Hyandia Excel, my console that fits perfect between the buckets is out of a mid 90's mini van. I took measurements and went to the junkyard, the Excel seats fit best and I know of another P-troll with them. I also found that mid-90's Honda Passport seats would fit but take more to adapt. The Excell seats I got are perfect, not a single stain or rip....cost was $80 for the set. My local welder fitted them for $60. The stock brackets to mount are used and the buckets swing up like stock seats. Plus I can drop in the stock ones as the mounts remain the same. Any bucket will work and I have seen a variety of buckets in P-trolls,. Yet, be careful when selcting a seat like I say especially if you are a small person but for a larger person be careful not to get to large a seat. Just take measurements and head to the junkyards...you are bound to find something. |
