I Just picked up a 69 patrol which is pretty stock from the looks of it,and was wondering if the drive train is worth keeping due to the lack of parts or would a drive train swap be better. I want to have a very capable, and reliable rig. what are the most popular swaps and why? what about the axles? I realy dont know anything about it. Any help would be appreciated.

I also have a 69 Patrol with the sock running gear, except for the Toyota Fj-40 rear end. It depends what your going to use it for. Mine is just for weekend use and I don't do any rock crawling. The stock motor is very industrial and has a lot of low end pulling power. The 1st gear is a little high, but for what I do its fine. I have pulled a few jeeps and yanked out some stumps with mine. I put in the fj-40 rearend so I could put in a air locker. Someday I will put in A fj-40 front end with disc brakes. Wet 4 wheel drum brakes can be scary in a heavy rig.
