I need to resolve my two pumper brakes and a broken front adjuster, now it heads for the ditch on braking. The braking has always been less than marginal. Has anyone swapped out a front axle and gotten disc brakes in the swap? I would be curious to know what works best.

I believe Fj-40 axles have been swapped on patrols. Jeepy has posted some info on the "projects" section on this site. His truck is for sale on ebay right now. Also check out RMP&O threads. Let me know if you find anything out, there are fj 40 axles near me and was wondering the same thing..........the brakes would be an improvement.

I swapped a front FJ40 axle into my Patrol that is on Ebay.  It was a pretty straight forward swap that required minimal grinding and fitting.  I chose a drum front axle since that is what I ran across.  The FJ40 disc axles are expensive.  The drum axles can be converted to disc though.  Only big problem is you have to use a proportioning valve with front discs for proper braking.  Here is a link to my Ebay listing:
