Just purchased a 1969 Patrol.  However, I am new to the 4x4 community.  Before I ruin something, can someone please explain how to engage the 4x4?  I would really appreciate the do's and dont's.

Thanks again.

I have read a bit but mostly trial and error.
The 4x4 shifter is the right most shifter. 4x4 is engaged by being pulled back and rear wheel drive by pushing forward. The movement is about 3 inches. The low and high gear shifter on the left (or middle if your counting the gear shifter) moves about 10 inches, back for high and forward almost to the dash for low, but can only be engaged when its in 4x4.
I have only engaged 4x4 and high/ low when stopped. Sometimes I have to move it an inch to or fro to help it shift. Maybe someone else can help on the question of shifting while "in flight."

Geekwood, thanks for the information.  I have one more question.  The  locking hub on the drivers side is extremely hard to turn by hand.  Almost impossible to turn the enitre way to engage.  However, the other side can be turned easily by hand.  Anyone have the same trouble.  Should I used some sort of wrench to to turn the hub?

Thanks.
