I have been corresponding with a gentleman in Japan. He has told me to send him my chassis number and he will look for parts. Is the chassis number the same as VIN? If not, where on the chassis can it be found?

It tells you where to find the chassis number on the 5th page of the service manual. I can't confirm this till i get home but ill have a look considering mine is still just a chassis with wheels

Yes the vin is the same as the chasis #. You can find it on the chasis on the right side(passenger side U.S. Patrol) top frame rail. It is close to where the exhuast comes down. It's stamped in the top.
