Well I finally got it here. I believe it's the only 80's Patrol in the USA. Don't know if I'll be able to license it or what as it was never imported to the U.S. but you never know. If I wait 5 more years it will be a classic and will be import exempt. In the meantime anyone had much luck bleeding the clutch. My truck sat for 2 years prior to me bringing it in, put 2 new batteries in and it started, the SD 33 diesel puts out alot of smoke but started none the less. Just need to figure out what to do about the clutch. Does anyone know where I can order after market parts ie bush guards, roof rake that kind of stuff. |

Hi, EyePez. As I know, (I have Patrol 1982), 33 tyres can be put on 160 model without any lifting. The simple one could be done: bodylift. You just need 8 cylinders and 8 bolts, strong enough. Just place cylinders between your Patrol body and frame on a standart places of standart bolts. Just look for a length of cylinders not to be more than 6 cm. and look for rust on those places especially on car body. Have much fun... Well, finally had the time to bring the Patrol inside and do some work. Clutch didn't bleed as easily as I hoped, but after I unbolted the top cylinder from the firewall and place it back on the juices began to flow. Then I re-bled at the bleeding screw and everything worked. Was able to fire it up and drive it around the block. Gears nicely, but hard to get used to driving on the right side. Will tackle licensing next week. Thanks for your directions made the job much easier. Talk Later. |

Can anyone recommend a good place to get a turbo unit for a SD33. Not sure how hard it would be to install, but would make a nice upgrade. |

Hi everyone: Around here it would be cheaper to locate some used SD33 engine WITH the turbo already installed, and much better if it has the transmission attached. And even better would be to locate a newer Patrol engine, like the 4.2 liters. I have been told that's a simple bolt-on. My own is a 84 with the smokey SD-33 and every year is harder and harder to get the technical approval. !Oh! I almost forgot. "Around here" is Costa Rica. Saludos Sepolvora |

Thanks for the reply. Maybe I'll wait till I can get this beast to Belize. Might be easier to get everything that I'll need done down there anyways. Your right a newer bigger engine would definitely be an improvement. Cheers |

Belize is definitely a nice place to be. My in-laws have lived there off and on for 10 years. Would love to spend a month or so there every winter. The Patrol would be great to have, especially being a diesel. We did spend 9 months with them in '95. That's were I came across the Nissan patrol, my in-laws had a 1991 2 door. Great truck. Lots of Patrols and old landrovers down there. Didn't see any old Patrols though. What part of the Caribbean where you in? Talk later, cheers |

Saludos |

Hi all I'm here in Aussie also and emailed someone off of the comm and was told by them that they did the shackle extention and also the leaf over axle afterwards, and their suggestion to me was to do the leaf over first as it doesn't change how the patrol rides. Looking into it, it looks as if all I need to do is get longer shocks on the front and also do the drop of the drive arm and get longer brake lines from the chassy to the diff area, and lengthen the axle breather also. This in total looks to give about a six inch lift. For the rear of the patrol it seems all I'll have to do is reverse the base plate that the shock and leafs sit on onto the other side to get them to still work without buying anything else. |

You would be better off not using longer shackles at least not lot's longer, it will affect steering and how it handles. A body lift is the way to go on an MQ, that and spring lift. A 3" spring lift and 2" body lift will give you 5" total. The SOA will change how it rides without a doubt. The SOA is also not as easy as you been lead to believe, sure it is doable and not hard. Yet, you will have a bunch of steering issues on the MQ and also the front driveline will hit your crossmember depending on what tranny you have. You can get the 5" lift without SOA and steering will remain the same. Longer brake lines, shocks and breathers is the easy part in a lift. Don't forget that front sway bar on an MQ too, it will need longer pins or removed altogether. Use a drop shackle and some pivoting leaf bushing and it will flex tons. No prob with 34" tires then too...the only exception being maybe your flares. Check here for recent discussion on suspension and ways to flex it. http://rockymountianpatrol.netfirms.com/phpbb/nfphpbb/viewtopic.php?t=78 and check here for an Aussie board with many guy who own MQ's that are modified inclusding SOA. http://www.outerlimits4x4.com/PHP_Modules/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=5 |
