Well, finally I am ready to post some pictures of my spring over axel conversion. I also have revolver shackles, and the conbination works great. If you need for flex, go with the shackles. If you need more clearance (like I did), go with the SOA. The later involves much more work and a few mods, but it is worth every headache. I finally have my Patrol the way I want it. I will also post some pictues of a couple of interesting things I've done to the car, such as dual battery with isolator and in-cab winch controls. If you have any questions please ask me. Keep them running. |

Hi EyePez, I'm planning to do a SOA on my patrol 3.3D but have a lot of questions, I hope you can answer. How dit you modify the front/rear axle? Did you have to replace the drive-shafts or can you keep using the original ones? When you do a SOA, doesn't the front driveshaft touch that horizontal part in the frame that's in front of your gearbox? All pictures of your modification and tips are more than welcome! See you, Toine |

Hello Toine,
Doing the SOA was fairly simple and straight
forward. I didn't have to replace nor modify axels and drive shafts. The thing
is, since I installed revolver shackles at the same time, I don't remember if
certain mods were nesessary because of the conversion or because of the shckles.
In any case, I had to lengthen the brake lines and relocate the steering. I also
removed the smallest leaf on the front springs and two in the back, mainly
becasue it rode too high and stiff, because I had just installed new gas shocks.
I posted some pictures on the club site, but I'b be happy to write in
detail the whole procedure, and include pictures if you give me a couple of
days. Let me just tell you that the SOA conversion was the best mod I've done.
Off road it peforms 100% better than before, at least in the type of terrain I
usually go wheeling. I'm very pleased with the results, and I know you'd be
too.
I'll write in a couple of days.
