Pro-gun House Dems reach deal with NRA Pro-gun Democrats have reached a compromise with the National Rifle Association to avoid an election-year showdown on gun laws in the District of Columbia. The deal was negotiated with the powerful gun-rights group by Reps. John Dingell (D-Mich.), Mike Ross (D-Ark.) and John Tanner (D-Tenn.), according to two sources familiar with the negotiations. The NRA has also signed off. Posted: 7/31/2008 11:44:38 AM Note: Many news sites archive stories after a short period of time. Pelosi opposes gun bill but may allow vote House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said she opposes a bill to restore Second Amendment rights in the District of Columbia, but she might not block it from coming to the floor. But then again, in her arrogance, she might. “I want to see the particulars,” Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Thursday. “Then we’ll see what comes to the floor or doesn’t come to the floor.” Posted: 8/1/2008 12:16:35 AM Note: Many news sites archive stories after a short period of time. Some House Democrats Seek Less-Rigid D.C. Gun Laws Democratic leaders in the U.S. House of Representatives have agreed to allow a vote next month on a bill that would end local handgun control in the District, making it easier for D.C. residents to acquire pistols, including semiautomatics, while eliminating the strict handgun-storage requirements imposed by the city. Gun owners arm themselves with advocacy group As the District prepares to fight double-barreled attempts to loosen its gun-control laws, some of the city`s gun rights pioneers have done what folks in Washington do best — they have formed a lobbying group. What Next for D.C.`s Gun Laws The Supreme Court ruled in June that provisions of Washington, D.C.`s gun laws are unconstitutional. Unfortunately, the city has responded with new regulations that are a flagrant attempt to circumvent the court`s decision. Posted: 8/8/2008 9:49:28 AM |
