I think they are about one of the dumbest things I've ever heard of! When I see a gun I want, I want it right then and there! That's one of many stupid laws that should be scrapped!

I agree totally. Why in the world do you wait only 1 day to buy a shotgun, but a handgun is 72 hours? If a bad dude wants to do harm, a shotgun is much more destructive. With the digital age, can't they do a background check in 24 hours?
I had a guy that worked for me last year that originally lived in Iowa. He said he never had to wait for a gun purchase. Once purchased, he could take it there on the spot. I don't know if that's true, but I know gun laws change from state to state. I'm glad that I don't live in Cook County, Il .. they are really restricted and must registar their guns.

I know the laws are different everywhere. I don't have to wait for buying a gun here.

Waiting periods are sold under a false premise.  That is, that a person who intends to hurt another in the "heat of passion" will "cool off" and no longer be a threat if they are denied the purchase of a firearm for a day, three days, a week, or a month.

Of course, if that person who wants to do another harm is blocked from access to a firearm, what's to prevent them from using a knife from the kitchen or a ball bat?  Answer: nothing.

What waiting periods do, however, is prevent potential victims from obtaining the one thing that could save their lives or the lives of their loved ones from an aggressor.  That tool is a firearm.

The proponents of waiting periods have a lot of innocent blood on their hands where ever this kind of law is the case.
