TY Val! Good to hear from good neighbours, eh??
My day has been spent putting in a new water pump in the well. I can tell U that that adage about 'NEVER missn' the water' is correct. I have good neighbours here so I just stretched out our two garden hoses and joined them together, in the meantime. It Works!
FREEDOM?
About two months ago I was sitting at home, alone, when the phone rang. His voice was 'golden' & reminded me of the one my one-time brother-in-law possessed. AND, sure enough he was doing a survey. 'A VERY long survey' he went on to say and asked me if I would take the time to help him out.
Having nothing urgent to do I agreed to it, although, I advised him that if he asked me what size my underwear was that I was going to hang up the phone. He chuckled and proceeded with the first of at least, 100 questions that seemed to cover the full-gambit of our society. (I remember only two)
Somewhere around #50 he asked me how old I was and if I was happy or a happy person, and I said, 'No! I'm too old to be happy anymore.'
Then at about #75 he hit me with THE difficult one: What is your definition of freedom? This question hit me hard because living in Canada we have so much freedom, with laws & courts to ensure it, that we tend to take it for granted, most of the time.(You think it's easy, huh? WELL, what is your definition of freedom?)
I squirmed in my chair and after internal-turmoil & a struggle that must have lasted 30 seconds I finally said: 'In this Great Land of ours, Freedom, to me, is my right to pay taxes!'
This answer didn't phase Mr. Golden Voice much and we finished the survey. Then he said: 'I have some advice for you, Sir! You are NOT old - I am MUCH older than you and I'm happy. Go and find yourself a job, like I did, and you will see a tremendous difference in the quality of your life!'
We gave our mutual thanks and hung up.
I have, since, much-pondered my answer to him on Freedom but so-far have managed to elude his good advice
As July 1st, Canada Day, draws near, perhaps all Canadians should take the time to think about just what their definition of Freedom might be. And, in a growing-older society we might like to think about Mr. Golden Voice's advice, as well.
