             Rawhide vs. Horsepower

I move across the snow with a quiet swoosh.
Moving gracefully, forward about the bush

As I move, tranquility floods my mind.
Of these simple snowshoes and rawhide binds.

This mode of transport was trusted strong.
It was used by our forefather’s centuries long.

Today’s snow travel is not quite the same.
Internal combustion I say is to blame.

Most people cross-snow by motorized sled.
On one of these, I would not be caught dead.

There motors are screaming there mufflers are loud.
Where ever they go you can see a blue cloud.

The thousands they spend to make those machines run.
They just brush it off and say that it is fun.

Alas when they are quiet and lay there all broken.
I will gracefully walk by them and fun will be poken.
