Gents,

Yep, they've come up with a replacement for our own beloved Big Dawg.  Not only is this one in much better condition and can move better and carry more, it might even be a lot smarter, too!

But they could never make it nearly as curmudgeonly!

Jack,

I wouldn't get too all fired proud of being better lookin' or smarter than I am.  It doesn't take that much.

Man, there was a few humps in Nam I sure coulda used a BigDog. At 75kg, 165 lbs, it looks like it could carry as much as our Big Dawg, only at half the weight.  :-)  Plus, it takes just a little gasolene and hydraulic oil to run, where our Big Dawg operated on Beer and Pound Cake, Ham and Mother's.  The exhaust noise and fumes would be about equal..although the robot might have a stealth muffler.  I would imagine a cosmetic upgrade for the robot would just need a photoshop transfer of our Big Dawg's face hung on it's radiator for a much cuter and cuddley look that Marines prefer. It'd be a toss up between  his or Mikey's mug.

Somewhere I saw that DARPA was developing a 4 legged vehicle for use in Nam that the Star Wars movie guys got their idea for those Battle Walkers that got shot to shit by some lil furry guys, and the bigger ones tripped up by jet fighters. That's probably why they quit the developement...or the war ended to soon, and now it's come back in a mini version. Much better idea, let the BigDog robot carry the whip antenna...hope it's got some Kevelar armor.

Dick

Dick,

Come to think of it, I weighed 165 lbs when I got to 5th Comm.  I won't say what I weigh at present, since I'm about another half a person now.  I don't think I could haul all that gear now, either.  If I tried, I'd probably just have to head straight for the Cardiac Care Unit.
