Man, this site is acting up for me lately.  Must be the big move starting to suck us in to the new site or sumpin.

Force Logistic Support Group A & B I believe were somehow under FLC command, Admin anyhow, and under 3MAF ops. I looked like a nightmare for paperwork but one of our members posted the FLC casualty list awhile back as that's the regimental rung the names ended up in.  I believe it had the MOS and unit with the names.

While I was there in '68 that's all I knew for our chain of command above our battalion was FLC, which Division was also unknown to me and then we were TAD'd to host units to make matters more vague.

Once I was tackled by an MP at a big PhuBai HQ and twice "captured" by the Nungs at FOB -2, 5th Spec. Forces camp above Phu Bai, each time no one ever heard of 5th Comm. Bn. and luckily each time there was one of our guys, Cpl. Newall and Muhl respectively,  TAD to them to come out and personally vouce for us.  The first Nung deal I screwed up and used our TAD address, 101st AB, and even the Nungs knew my Marine garb didn't jive with that. At the time security was hightened from traitors and others roaming around still posing as Marines. Young and dumb, it's lucky I didn't end up in a brig or interogation bunker somewhere.

If it wasn't for other 5th Commers voucing for us, I don't know how a security check would have went since I heard stories of some of our guys being "forgotten" on our roster:  maybe they call 5th Comm, check the roster for my name etc., then the chance "nope, he aint here" reply would have started something bad.

SF,

Dick
