7/18/06 Performances
Oh, first I have to say that there wasn't one song in the mix that I don't like, some of them are absolute favorites....so it's kinda hard to dislike a performance unless it was completely butchered... Also, I didn't seem to agree with the judges much last night - I think in the studio just sounded different than on tape and I really hope those judges watched the tape last night so they can see where they went wrong, lol.
That said:
Patrice Pike - Helter Skelter
Ok, she really does have a good voice, even though her presence needs some work. Great song choice, but then, it's an uber-classic.
Josh Logan - Come As You Are
For fuck sake, will you stop grinning all the time? Dude, you have a great voice (should've rocked this one up a lot more though), but don't you listen to the lyrics, don't you 'get' what they're about? Ack. Otherwise, dude has a great voice, he just....didn't do it last night.
Storm Large - Just What I Needed
Didn't think that was a good song choice for her, she was 'eh'. If no one else was in the competition though, she'd be a shoe-in.
Lukas Rossi - Let's Spend the Night Together
Not bad at all. It seems appropriate that a dude with such obvious affectations should sing something championed by the King of affectations! But he's still a major poseur, lol. (I think I'm actually offended that he seemed completely unfamiliar with this song - how does one claim to be a rock n' roller and know nothing of rock classics?)
Jill Gioia - All Right Now
Excellent! Of course, that was a great song choice, better than Helter Skelter would've been, imo. Even if she is a bitch, oh well, she's really quite good!
Ryan Star - Fortunate Son
I thought he was very good - great vocals, just still needs to work on his performance levels. And dang, he's good lookin' when he smiles, lol!
Phil Ritchie - White Rabbit
Interesting song choice for him, I never would've gone that route. He had a great start, but by the end he was really losing his voice. He shouldn't scream - needs to work on that. He still seems kinda sloppy in his performance, but he sure is cute. It was very cool to see Jason on the bass. Worth sitting through just for that.
Dana Andrews - It's My Life
She's the one that showed up late for American Idol auditions, right? LOL Um, well, she has a good voice and all, she's just not rock n' roll, not right for this band at all.
Toby Rand - Runaway Train
He did ok, but I expect more of him. Could've been the song choice, not sure why he chose this one. He better rock next week.
Magni - Plush
Ok, this song is probably one of THE best-written rock songs in history, so I immediately got worried, cuz how can you improve on perfection? You either have to make it completely your own - and risk sucking majorly - or you need to karaoke it and just channel Scott and hope for the best. He chose the latter and it was probably the best idea. He was good, but nothing to write home about.
Zayra Alvarez - Everybody Hurts
I make notes as I watch the show, and all I wrote for this was "holy shit". I don't get how the judges could do anything but vomit, but apparently in the studio it didn't sound as f'd up as it was. That girl was off-key so many times, it felt like the AI auditions. Jebus...
Jenny Galt - Drive
Not heavy rock enough, but still, I think she's quite good and this was a good song choice. Not sure why the dudes didn't like it all that much. Again, I hope they watch the playback.
Dilana - Zombie
Indescribable, words elude me. I may have to become a Lesbian, I'm so in love. I love this song anyway and was concerned - how's Dilana going to do a Dolores song? But dang she pulled it off. As usual. She's too awesome for words, she must win this thing. I love her. "I wanna Dilana", lol.
