SAN DIEGO �?The National Weather Service posted high surf advisories from Ventura and Los Angeles counties south to Orange and San Diego counties through Wednesday night. Surf was building to 5-to-7 feet with occasional sets from 8-to-10 feet, with strong rip current conditions, the NWS said.
“When in doubt, just stay out,�?the NWS warned potential swimmers. “When visiting the shoreline never turn your back on the ocean.�?/P>
Crowds gathered on the sand Tuesday in Newport beach to watch bodyboarding action as high surf rolled in at the famous “Wedge.�?
Surf was up on all of Newport Beach's south-facing beaches although it was not extraordinarily high, said Lifeguard Battalion Chief Jim Turner.
“We're seeing about 5-to-7 feet on south-facing beaches and our prime south-facing spots are probably doing 10 to 12 feet,�?he said.
