Appliqued Felt Stockings

Materials: For each stocking, 1/2 yard wool felt; wool felt scraps for appliqued shapes; pearl cotton in contrasting colors; 8 inches 1/2-inch-wide ribbon for hanger; needle.

Instructions: Finished size, approximately 16 inches long.

Enlarge stocking and applique patterns  +200 percent, then 200 percent, then 150 percent.

Transfer pattern to wool felt; cut two stocking pieces. Set aside. Cut out shapes, such as stars, hearts, circles, and trees, in graduated sizes and assorted colors. Using a running stitch, hand-sew a small shape to a medium shape. Using a blanket or running stitch, sew a medium shape (with small shape attached) to a large shape. Lay the applique shapes in desired spots on stocking front; blanket-stitch in place.

On the stocking front, begin blanket-stitching at one corner and continuing along the top edge. When rounding the second corner to continue down the side, position the stocking back and front wrong sides together. Blanket-stitch pieces together, ending at the first corner. Attach a ribbon loop for hanging.   if you copy and paste  this/ then printout you will have a static  tree .circle and star. or use a heart shaped box then draw inner applique shapes  as you go . you can get several sizes this way ..bigger the box more shapes.
