In honour of the dearly departed Y2J, I thought we could clean things up with a single general english football thread to refer back to as opposed to the numerous threads he started.  That way if you aint interested you don't have to look .

Ironically my beef tonight is with Y2J's beloved Manchester United.  They have bombed out of the Carling Cup tonight by fielding a reserve team and being stuffed at Old Trafford by Coventry.

Man Utd: Kuszczak, Bardsley (Brown 45), Evans (Carrick 56), Pique, Simpson, Nani, Martin (Campbell 45), O'Shea, Eagles, Dong, Anderson.
Subs Not Used: Heaton, Eckersley.

Ok, so United are chasing honours on four fronts.  But so are Liverpool, compare and contrast the team which edged out my own boys in a very decent game last night:

Liverpool: Itandje, Finnan, Carragher, Lucas (Hobbs 89), Aurelio (Riise 69), Arbeloa, Benayoun, Sissoko, Leto, Crouch (Gerrard 77), Torres.
Subs Not Used: Martin, Putterill.

I wish we'd faced Dong rather than Torres, Bardsley rather than Finnan, Evans rather than Carragher etc.!  The League Cup is a trophy with nearly 50 years of history and, sorry Fergie, Manchester United are not bigger than a trophy which carries with it a european place.  Treat it with a bit more respect.

Zenit are being bankrolled by Gazprom, their sponsors, the largest extractor of natural gas in the world, the largest company in Russia, and the third largest corporation in the world.

They also are getting a 62,000 seater stadium built for them at present, which they expect to fill for every home game, and it will be the Gazprom Arena.

So yes, they have £multi-millions more than Rangers or Celtic.

so they do have a tycoon that i was unaware of. Shaktar have a similar situation. So there are an exception to the rule. Still wondering as to why the OF aren't as active in the Transfer Market

Exactly my point. We are a victim of geography.

but surely the huge fanbases brings in the money needed?

Not even close to the television money generated by the clubs in England and in the big European countries.

but consider teams like Hull or Stoke who have a fraction of either of our fanbases, tv money can't make that much of a difference when average attendances in Rangers and Celtic are atleast twice more than most lower Premiership teams.
Sorry but this doesn't make sense to me

So tell me why players like Daniel Cousin will walk away from Rangers and European football just after an Old Firm game in which he excelled, to sign for that very same Hull City ?

Simple, money talks.

season tickets in the epl are about 590 for a mid table club, and they will get more for sponsers than the old firm because of the league they are in. also the big 50 million sky tv deal

but their stadium capacity is normally about 20,000-30,000, very small compared to ibrox or celtic park, therefore more season tickets sold.

I want to find out why Hull are able to spend more money, i know they cannot but i don't know why

so stadium capacity which doubles most these teams, fanbases with money that shadows most these teams. What you're saying is Celtic get 25 million, with TV Money and Champions League, the relegated teams get 30 mil. So Celtic don't get more than 5 million from merchandise, matchdays, tickets sales etc.???

You do the simple math next time ;- )
