An old football fan's cliche I agree, however, if ever that description applied to a incident it was yesterday's "tackle" by Jackie Macnamara, now of Falkirk. He basically just runs up behind his opponent and goes in studs first into the back of the guy's leg. No attempt to play the ball, it was clearly and simply a deliberate attempt to injure his opponent. The funny thing about it was he had the cheek to look surprised when the ref produced a red card! In my opinion that challenge should see him banned for several games, not just for the one he will get for the card. Remember Duncan Ferguson's 10 game ban for locking heads with a guy? Well, for my money Macnamara's challenge was far, far more dangerous and sinister than old Duncan's and should be dealt with accordingly. Police involvment should also not be out of the question.

It was an absolute shocker, yes. The guy on Setanta Sports News last night said he thought McNamara should be banned for 6 months for it.
