Having a chat on MSN messenger tonight with Nessie whilst I should have been sending some important e-mails  about football in general and Glens in particular lead on to the ex-Glens players and then I posed a linked question which perhaps folk on here might wish to add their own tuppence worth to:

Who is the single player on the other side of the OF divide who you'd have most  loved to have seen at your own club?

I suppose it depends which era you're looking at. In the 60s and 70s I'd have taken Jimmy Johnstone, in the 80s I wouldn't have had anyone, in the late 90s unquestionably I'd have wanted Henrik £ar$$on in my team.

I have to say, though, despite them being top of the league, there are no players in the current Celtic team that I'd be desperate to have in my team.

I don't think there is any doubt that Kenny Dalglish, who slipped through our net and was one of many, would have been more than welcome in our team at that time.

Celtic had a number of excellent players then who were more than good enough to get a place in our team. In recent years Larsson is the obvious standout.

Of course, how did I forget Kenny Dalglish ?  Yes, I would have taken him every day of the week and twice on a Sunday. But then again, I am of an age where I think of him as Kenny Dalglish of Liverpool and Scotland. I remember watching an interview with him on the telly as he travelled south (by train !) to sign for Liverpool, and wondering what all the fuss was about.

It was 1977 when he signed for Liverpool, and it was season 77-78 (we won The Treble that season) when I really got into watching Rangers properly, although I remember being at the 1976 Scottish Cup Final, which is really my first memory of attending a Rangers game.

Interestingly, my first clear memory of attending a football match was the semi-final of the Scottish Junior Cup in 1975, when The Glens beat Kilbirnie Ladeside at Rugby Park, followed by defeat in the final at Hampden Park by Glenrothes. I obviously attended matches before then though, as I remember sitting in the old grandstand at Southcroft Park before it was burned down days before that 1975 final. But I don't remember watching any of the acction on the pitch back in those days.

Dado Prso but we had great strikers at the time, Ally McCoist during the 90's.

Are you kidding, Alltims ? Danny McGrain was well past it by the 80s, and Roy Aitken was always crap.

Would you not have liked to have had Gazza or Laudrup in your team ?

And why not F-W ? Based on pure football ability, he is the best midfielder this country has seen in my lifetime, in my opinion. Nobody comes close in terms of natural ability.

Put aside your dislike for his lifestyle and tell me whether you'd like him in your team based purely on the contribution he would have made to the side.
