I have an active interest in scottish football and particularly the OF title race, but to be honest the coverage in the press south of the border of scottish football isn't the best.  It seems to me a little odd that Rangers are now once again very much out of that title race; I say that for two reasons.

Firstly, Gordon Strachan.  The Celtic fans on here have never seemed to warm to him particularly.  I find the bloke very amusing but he never really pulled up many trees managing in England and for his Celtic team to be so far ahead of Rangers and on the cusp of his 4th successive title is a surprise to the interested outsider.

Secondly, in light of Rangers achievements last season.  It is clear that progress in the cups hampered Rangers last season and I am sure no Rangers fan would have swapped the SPL title for a UEFA Cup final.  You beat some very excellent sides en route to Manchester, not least Fiorentina who are currently in the top 4 of Serie A.

Is it fair to say that this isn't exactly a vintage Celtic side?  I saw Rangers beat St Mirren last month but it seemed to me a very nervous stadium when Rangers didn't kill off the opposition who ultimately gave themselves a sniff of snatching a result in the closing stages.  Do the Rangers fans not trust their team?  Their team which was very close to a remarkable quadruple last season?  Where has it fallen apart this time?
